Newport -Home Going services for Mr. JD Balthrop, 77 of Newport are scheduled for 3pm Saturday, Oct. 21, 2023, at Alexander Gray Funeral Home Chapel of Wilson with Bro. David Colaw officiating and son, Ethan Cox assisting. Interment will follow at the Newport Cemetery.

JD was born May 14, 1946, at Lone Grove to the late Mr. Joseph ``Joe" Dean Balthrop and Mrs. Ruth Evelene (Beard) Balthrop. He departed from this life on Tuesday Oct. 17, 2023, at his ranch in Newport.

JD was raised in Lone Grove attending his initial years of school at Woodford. He graduated high school from Lone Grove with the Class of 1964. Mostly known for owning and operating J&J Auto Sales of Lone Grove for many years and raising and selling Registered Black Angus Bulls and Cattle. His passion was always being with cows and selling bulls.

JD married Janice Haworth on Oct. 16, 2010 at the Stobtown Freewill Baptist Church. They traveled many places together selling and buying bulls. JD loved hearing Janice sing where they loved attending and being members of the Gene Autry Baptist Church. JD also loved to go crappie fishing and hold a community fish fry at his ranch every year.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Shirley Christian.

Survivors include his wife Janice of the home; children, Jennifer McKettrick of Cincinnati, OH, Jeff Balthrop and wife DeLona of Phoenix, AZ, Ethan Cox and wife Kelsey of Lone Grove, Jordan Herweck of Oklahoma City, Jennifer McLain of Carrollton, TX and Jeremy Haworth and wife Angel of Ardmore; 12 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, numerous other family and friends.

Casket bearers are Jared Balthrop, Reid Balthrop, Austin Storie, Jeff Balthrop, Jennifer McKettrick and Ethan Cox.

Family visitation will be held Friday evening from 6 to 8 pm at Alexander Gray Funeral Home of Wilson.
