Janis K Herrington

Ringling – Funeral Services for Mrs. Janis Kay Herrington, 79, are scheduled for 2:00 P.M., Monday, October 17, 2022 at the Alexander Gray Funeral Home Chapel in Ringling. Interment will follow to Orr Cemetery.

Janis was born August 12, 1943 in Ardmore, OK to the late Mr. J. Q. Porter and Mrs. Joyce J. (Shelton) Porter. She departed from this life on Wednesday, October 12, 2022 in Wichita Falls, TX.

Janis was raised in Orr attending school there and in Ringling. She married Mr. Bob Herrington on July 4, 1960. She had worked at several places throughout the years, one being in Marietta at the Cookie Factory, but most of her life she was a devoted homemaker. Janis enjoyed shopping, collecting Pioneer Woman, listening to music and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A feisty yet compassionate woman, Janis aimed to create a nurturing environment for those who entered her life. Nicknamed “Grandma Janis” and “Nanny,” Janis was the foundation of her family and friends. Whether it was sharing stories with her best friend and cousin, Gale Odom, or cooking breakfast on a summer morning with her grandkids, Janis cherished each day with family and friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Bob on January 20, 2004 and her partner, Herman Griffith.

Janis is survived by her daughter, Wendy Alvarez and husband Willie of Wichita Falls, TX; sons, PeeWee Herrington of Purcell and Jay Herrington of Ringling; siblings, Mike Porter and wife Paulette of Mustang; grandchildren, Michael Herrington, Melanie Turner, Dillon Maxwell, Gabriella Alvarez, Jacob Herrington, Hope Alvarez, and Faith Alvarez; great grandchildren, Riley Herrington, Aiden Herrington, Drake Dixon, Deagan Dixon, great grandson, Oliver Kurian; and by a host of other family and friends.

Pallbearers will be PeeWee Herrington, Jay Herrington, Michael Herrington, Jacob Herrington, Brandon Turner, and Brent Thompson. Honorary bearer will be Dillon Maxwell.
