Janice (Gunter) Cartwright

Wilson – Mrs. Janice (Gunter) Cartwright, age 84, of Wilson, departed this life on Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at her residence. Funeral Services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Friday, May 17, 2019 at the Rexroat Baptist Church with Rev. Don Clark and Rev. Edward Wise officiating. Services are under the direction and care of Alexander Gray Funeral Home in Wilson.

Janice was born on March 4, 1935 in Keller, OK to the late Mr. Joseph Roscoe Gunter and Mrs. Bernice (Smithers) Gunter.

She was raised in the Keller area and attended school at Rexroat School and graduated from there in 1953. Janice met and married Mr. Bennie Cartwright on Sept 12, 1953 in Plainview. Together they made their home north of Wilson where they would raise their three children. She was a loving mother, grandmother and devoted housewife. After her children were all in school she went to work and eventually became the Vice President of the Bank of Wilson. Janice was affectionately known as Mammaw to her grandchildren. She would attend their ballgames and activities as often as she could. Mrs. Cartwright had been a member of the Rexroat Baptist Church for over 70 years. She would help with vacation bible school during the summers and taught Sunday school classes. Collecting porcelain dolls and quilting were two of her favorite hobbies. She was an excellent cook and her cooking couldn’t be beat.

Janice is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bennie Cartwright; grandson, Greg Sullivan; son-in-law, Alven Alexander; brothers, Billy Wayne Gunter; sisters, Velma Kathryn (Cricket) Reeder, and Joyce Gunter.

Mrs. Cartwright is survived by her daughters, Brenda Alexander of Wilson; Donna Sullivan and husband Mike of Ardmore; son, David Cartwright and Tina of Wilson; grandchildren, Mike Faught and wife Amber; Amanda Stearns and husband Ronnie, Daniel Cartwright, Jacob Cartwright, Emily Welch and husband Dustin, Jessica Edwards and husband Justin, Brian Sullivan and wife Stephanie; great grandchildren, Megan, Molly, Maddie, McKinley, Alex, Ridley, Aubree; sisters, Margie Ware of Irving, Mary Lynn Stanley of Gilmer, Nancy Aly of Ardmore, Beverly McMillan and husband Phil of Ardmore, Athella Gunter of Wilson; brothers, Roscoe Gunter and wife Frieda of Wilson, Jim Gunter and wife Mary Ann of Poolville, Bobby Gunter of Ardmore, Ronald Gunter of Wilson, Larry Gunter and wife Nancy of Wilson, Jerry Gunter and wife Coleen of Cheek; Many other relatives and a host of friends.

Casket Bearers will be Dustin Welch, Ronnie Stearns, Daniel Cartwright, Jacob Cartwright, Brian Sullivan and Michael Faught.

Honorary Bearers are David Cartwright, Bobby Gunter, Ronald Gunter, Larry Gunter, Jerry Gunter, Roscoe Gunter. Jim Gunter and Mike Sullivan.

Family visitation will be Thursday evening from 6-8 P.M. at the Rexroat Baptist Church 10460 Dillard Rd Wilson, OK.
