James Thomas Tobiason

Services for James Thomas Tobiason, 41, of Mustang, are scheduled for 1:00 P.M., Friday, January 10, 2025, Alexander Gray Funeral Home Chapel in Wilson with Micah Ogden officiating. Interment will follow at Hewitt Cemetery in Wilson.

James Thomas Tobiason was born February 19, 1983, to Richard and Janet (Buckley) Tobiason. James was the second of five children. He attended Mustang schools and graduated in 2003. James was a life-long athlete and sportsman. He started playing recreational soccer at the age of six on the Tigers team. He entered competitive soccer at twelve and played for the Magpies team throughout his teenage years. He played all positions well but had a special knack as a midfielder who created scoring opportunities. James also enjoyed the fast pace of indoor soccer in the off seasons. He sure knew how to make a soccer ball bounce. In our family, you went to James for advice, help, or training when it concerned soccer. James had a passion for skateboarding. He began as a boy before it was popular and continued throughout his life. He always had a skateboard with him and would take every opportunity to skate. In fact, he used to call it his most dependable transportation. In addition to soccer and skateboarding, James had a passion for art. He started drawing as soon as he could hold a pencil. He used art as way to communicate and enjoy life. He was always drawing something. Growing up James enjoyed the outdoors. He was known as the lucky fisherman of the family. On family vacations and camping trips he always managed to catch one when no one else did. He enjoyed all water sports. He could always be counted on to watch the boat and when required was the go-to guy to stay roadside with boat or trailer until help arrived. James was adventurous and not afraid to try new things. He traveled with friends, and he also traveled solo. He traveled by foot, car, boat, train and airplane to many places. He could tell stories about sleeping on football fields, roaming Chicago, seeing the lights of Las Vegas and crossing the Northern Plains of the United States. James was especially loved by animals and children. Family pets thought he was their special friend. James had the position of the favorite, fun uncle. Over the years he was involved in the lives of his nieces and nephew. Uncle James always had smiles and enormous patience with his young relatives. James had a sense of humor that made you laugh and feel good. He could make a comment that had you laughing till you cried. His humor came naturally, and he used it to navigate life. 

 James is preceded in death by his grandparents: Dulcia June Buckley, Joann Geist, and Duane (Toby) Tobiason. 

 James is survived by his parents, Richard and Janet Tobiason, grandmother, Frances Tobiason, fiancée Katrina Thomas, and four siblings: Eric Tobiason and wife Amy and nieces, Montana and Berkeley; Erin Tobiason and nephew Jacob; Richard Tobiason II and niece Kennedy; Nicholas Tobiason and niece Kimber. Last but not least, James leaves behind many other relatives and friends who will miss him.

 Pallbearers will be Eric Tobiason, Richard Tobiason II, Nicholas Tobiason, Micah Ogden, Ryan Chavez, and Jacob Long.

Family visitation will be held from 11 A.M. to 1 P.M. Friday prior to the service.
