December 11, 1933 — June 2, 2022

Ardmore - Graveside services for Mr. James Oliver Meyer, 88 are scheduled for 10:00 A.M., Friday, June 10, 2022 at Hillcrest Memorial Park with Wilson Mayor Frank Schaaf officiating. Services are under the care and direction of Alexander Gray Funeral Home in Wilson.

James was born December 11, 1933 in Hominy, OK to Edward Albert Meyer and Hazel Edith (Wheeler) Meyer. He departed from this life on Thursday, June 2, 2022 at his home in Wilson. James was of the Methodist faith.

James lived in several towns growing up as his father worked for Continental Oil Company, the last place being Wilson, OK where James graduated and enjoyed playing basketball. He attended Murray State College, was drafted and served 2 years in the Navy going various places around the world. He moved to Oklahoma City and went to work for Kerr McGee as a Customer Service Manager in their lubricant department. James retired in the 1990's after a long career.

He then moved back to Wilson to help in the care of his Mother and Father. James was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing every spare moment. After a few years, he needed his sister's assistance and she and her husband (Wilma and Bill Miller) moved from Seattle, WA back home to Wilson. When he and his sister needed assistance with his brother in law, who suffered a stroke, his niece and her husband (Debbie Polios and her husband Bill) moved to Ardmore from Las Vegas, NV. After his sister, brother in law and his niece Debbie's husband passed away, Debbie moved to the home to care for James. He was very active in her life and was a second father to her.

James suffered numerous health issues and Debbie was his devoted caretaker. They shared a cat named Jasmine, who was their joy.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, brother in law, and a nephew in law.

He is survived by his niece, Debbie Polios of the home.

The family would like to thank Mercy Hospital, The Cancer Center, Ideal Home Health Care, Cross Timbers Hospice and SORTS transportation for all their support and care.
