James "Jim" Robert Clark

September 21, 1939 — September 24, 2024

Graveside services for James "Jim" Robert Clark are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 30, 2024, at Hewitt Cemetery, with Charlie Paul Steele officiating. Services are under the care and direction of Alexander Gray Funeral Home in Wilson.

Jim Clark passed away on September 24, 2024, at the age of 85. Born on September 21, 1939, in Wilson, Oklahoma, Jim was the son of the late Mr. Norman Victor Clark and Mrs. Irene (Lee) Clark.

Jim's early life in Wilson was marked by academic and athletic achievements, culminating in his graduation with the class of 1957. He was notably the quarterback for the Wilson Football team and also excelled in basketball. His talent on the field earned him a scholarship to Murray State College, where he continued to play football as a quarterback for two years. Subsequently, he furthered his education at Oklahoma State University, where he received both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mechanical engineering.

Beginning his professional career with DuPont in Orange, Texas, Jim's journey led him to Ardmore in 1970, when he took a position with Uniroyal/Michelin. His dedication and skill culminated in a successful 31-year tenure as Chief Plant Engineer, from which he retired in 2001.

Jim's personal life was as fulfilling as his professional endeavors. He married Gayle Tanner from Lone Grove, and together they were blessed with a son and two daughters. He later married the former Ms. Sue Lowery on January 19, 1978, in a heartfelt ceremony at Dr. Parker’s house in Ardmore, despite the cold and icy conditions of that day. The couple made Ardmore their home and shared a life filled with love, family, and mutual interests. Jim worked part-time as a courier for Mercy Memorial Hospital from 2001 to 2009 after his retirement.

A past member of the Ash Street Church of Christ in Wilson, Jim served not only as an attendee but also as a song leader, sharing his passion for music with others. He enjoyed his free time playing the guitar and was involved in several bands throughout his life. Together with Sue, he also found joy in raising cattle, an endeavor he cherished deeply.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Nancy Ann Clark, who passed at a young age, and Joyce Culbreth.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Sue (Lowery) Clark, of the home; children, Jimmy Clark, Amy Nelson and husband Doug, and Toni Brackett, all of Plano, Texas; siblings, Stanley Clark and wife Linda of Toms River, New Jersey, Norman “Butch” Clark and wife Kathy of Pensacola, Florida, and Mary Ann Steele and husband Charlie of Ardmore; and grandchildren, Shea Bazan, Lexi Powers, Maddie Clark, Zacchary Nelson, and CiCi Nelson. He also leaves behind five great-grandchildren, numerous extended family members, and a host of friends who will remember him fondly.

Pallbearers will be Charlie Paul Steele, Michael Throneberry, Jimmy Clark, Doug Nelson, Matthew Throneberry, and Zacchary Nelson.

Following the service, a reception will be held at the Ash Street Church of Christ Fellowship Hall in Wilson, where all are welcome to attend and honor his memory.
