Davis – Celebration of Life Services for Mr. James Horton “Jimbo” Yell, 75, of Lone Grove is scheduled for 2:00 PM Thursday, May 9, 2013 at Green Hill Cemetery in Davis with Step Son Danny Eaves speaking. Services are under the direction and care of Alexander Funeral Home of Wilson.
Jimbo was born October 1, 1937 at Ardmore to the late Mr. James Gordon Yell and Mrs. Nellie Mozelle (Horton) Yell. He departed this life Monday May 6, 2013 at his home in Lone Grove.
Jimbo attended school at Lone Grove graduating from there in 1955. He then attended Murray State College in Tishomingo for one year. He and the former Mary Kathern Raper were united in marriage on October 20th of 2001.
Jimbo served as a Carter County Reserve Officer under Sheriff Robert Denney from 1980 to 1994. He was a 49 year Mason and Shriner and was always a cowboy at heart. He enjoyed all the things of owning and operating his own ranch, raising cows and riding horses. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing and loved attending rodeos. Anyone who knew Jimbo will remember him as a person whose word was his bond. He was baptized at the Methodist Church of Ardmore.
He was preceded in death by his Parents, James and Nellie and a Son in law Robert Owens.
Survivors include wife Mary of the home; Son, Jimmy Yell and wife Elizabeth of Godley, TX; Grandson, Grady James Cole Yell of Godley, TX; Step grandchildren, Brayson and Taylor Martin of Godley, TX; Step Children Danny Eaves and wife Dawn of Oklahoma City, Sherry Owens of Tulsa and Brenda Tanner and husband Wendell of Austin, TX; Sister, Betsy Harris Tackett and husband Ken of Ardmore; Niece, Laurel Monroe; Nephews, Brian and Stephen Harris; Great Nephews, Jerry and Sam Harris, Ian and Grayson Campbell, Micray and Hunter Ratliff; Great Niece, Abbey Harris; 7 Step Grandchildren, 4 Step Great Grandchildren and friends, Shiloh Butts, Randy and Kari Johnson, Don and Tracy McManus, Johnny Bogle, Madonna and Jim Pumphrey and Larry Kerr who were like family.
