James Edward Wigington
1936-2013
Wilson - Our Daddy, James E. Wigington went home to be with the Lord on Sunday October 13, 2013 in Celina, Texas after a long illness. Daddy was born November 7, 1936, in Carthage, Missouri to A. J. and Mildred (Norman) Wigington he was the third of nine children. His journey with Mom (Melva Jane Armstrong ) began August 10, 1954 and lasted until her death on December 26, 2002. After many years of marriage they were true examples to Kathy, Karen, Lori and J. P.
Daddy served proudly in the US Army from 1956 – 1959. He attended Decatur Baptist College, Oklahoma Baptist University and received his Master of Theology degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He was licensed to preach in 1961. Daddy’s calling in life was to share the gospel through ministry. He pastored many Southern Baptist Churches in Oklahoma from 1965 until his retirement in 2005. He was involved in prison ministry, teaching seminary extension classes and went on many mission trips abroad. Daddy served as interim pastor in churches after his retirement.
Daddy was preceded in death by his beloved wife Melva, grandson Elzie James Cain; parents A. J. and Mildred, sister Janet; brothers Philip, David, Larry, and John Wigington.
He is survived by his daughter Kathy and her husband, Jerry Curtis, of Choctaw, OK; grandchildren Melanie and Jason; great-grandchildren Michael, Kyla, Katie and Adara; daughter, Karen, and her husband Trevor Viljoen of McKinney, TX; grandchildren, Sasha and Lauren; daughter, Lori Cain of Wilson, OK; granddaughters, Heather and Kandice; great-grandsons, Michel, Justin and Weston; son, James Phillip, and wife Kathy, of Midwest City, OK; grandchildren, Ariel, Hailey and Tristan; Sister Jean Ann Freeman, of Nevada; Brother Don, and his wife Pat, of Arkansas; Sister Pam, and her husband Lyle Rhodes, of Arkansas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A special thanks to the staff at Settlers Ridge Nursing Home and Heart to Heart Hospice for the Care they gave Daddy during his illness.
Services will be held at Alexander Funeral Home Chapel in Wilson, Oklahoma on Friday October 18, 2013 at 10:00 AM, officiated by Reverend Reed Lynn. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery in Durant, Oklahoma. Pallbearers will be grandsons Jason Aguirre, Sasha Kakabadse, Tristan James Wigington, and nephews, Eric Armstrong, Buddy Auten and Paul Armstrong.
Visitation will be Thursday October 17, 2013 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Alexander Funeral Home in Wilson, Oklahoma.
