Irene Kerps

December 5, 1927 — April 24, 2017

Wilson – Graveside Services for Mrs. Irene (Claxton) Kerps, 89 of Ardmore are scheduled for 11:00 A.M. Thursday, April 27, 2017 at Hewitt Cemetery with Jim MaGaughy officiating. Services are under the care and direction of Alexander Funeral Home in Wilson.


Irene was born in Zaneis to the late Mr. Charlie Claxton and Mrs. Ovie (Johnson) Claxton on December 5, 1927. She departed from this life on Monday, April 24, 2017 in Ardmore.


Irene was raised in Zaneis graduating from Zanies High School in 1945. She married the late Roy Kerps in Ardmore on December 7, 1952. To this union, they were blessed with two children, Debbie and Roy, Jr. Irene was very family oriented and was the center of the family who knew where everyone was. She was a great seamstress, cook and a devoted homemaker. Irene’s greatest pride was her family and their accomplishments.


Preceding her in death are her parents; husband, Roy Kerps; sister, Imogene Wheeler; and brothers, James, Shorty, Billy and Herman Claxton.


Irene is survived by her son Roy Kerps, Jr. and his wife Kim of Spring, TX,: daughter, Debbie Stanberry and husband Keith of Denver, CO; grandchildren, Cody Kerps and wife Stephanie of Houston, TX and Tyler (Kerps) Russo and husband Bevin of Pearland, TX and numerous nieces and nephews.


Honorary bearers will be Gary James Claxton, Kerry Lane Claxton, Terry Leo Claxton, Tim Claxton, Bevin Russo and Cody Kerps.
