Homer Lee Choate

July 1, 1934 — April 24, 2016

On the evening of April 24, 2016, Homer passed away at his home in Tuttle and drove his red tractor straight to heaven. Homer was 81 years old.


Homer Choate was born in Ringling, Oklahoma on July 1, 1934 to Beaulah Mae and William Thomas Choate. He married Shirley Joy Davis in Ardmore, Oklahoma on October 8, 1955. He retired from Wilson Foods in Oklahoma City after working as a machinist for 34 years.


Homer loved Purple Martins, Coonhounds, watching the Dallas Cowboys with his grandsons, growing tomatoes and onions, and playing in the floor with his great-grandkids.


Homer was preceded in death by his mother and father, Beaulah Mae and William Thomas Choate; brother, Ernest Choate; brother, Nathan Choate; sister, Alice Wigham; sister, Nettie Switzer; sister, Florence Carmickle; sister, Llue Thurman; and brother, Ollie Choate.


Homer is survived by his sister, Irene Rumsey and husband Ronnie, of Ringling; brother Eugene “Bear” Reynolds and wife Pat, of Norfolk, VA; his wife of 60 years, Shirley Joy Choate, of Tuttle; daughter, Sherri Sasnett, of Blanchard; son, Terry Choate and wife Donna, of Newcastle; daughter, Sheila Williams and husband Coy, of Tuttle; nine grandchildren, Shane Workman and wife Angie, of Midland, TX; Eddy Wayne Sasnett, of Oklahoma City; Dusty Choate, of Newcastle; Kyle Choate, of Newcastle; Christopher Choate, of Newcastle; Erika Huffman and husband Travis, of Newcastle; Jordan Varner and husband TJ, of Mustang; Colton Williams, of Tuttle; Grant Williams, of Tuttle; and eight great-grandchildren.


Pallbearers are Shane Workman, Kyle Choate, Eddy Wayne Sasnett, Chris Choate, Ronnie Ramsey, JR., and Rodney Hairell.


Honorary Bearers are Dusty Choate, Brayden Workman, Cooper Workman, Colton Williams and Grant Williams.


Services will be held on Friday, April 29 at 2pm at Alexander’s Funeral Home in Ringling with Bro. Bobby Perkins officiating. Interment will follow at the Ringling Memorial Cemetery.

Family visitation will be held on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 pm at the funeral home.
