Hershell Samuel Mitchell

Funeral Services for Mr. Hershell Samuel Mitchell, 91 are scheduled for 2 PM, Friday, January 27, 2017 at Alexander Funeral Home Chapel in Ringling with Pastor Joe Taylor officiating. Interment will follow to Ringling Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Hershell Samuel Mitchell was born February 14, 1925 to the late Mr. Forrest Bedford Mitchell and Mrs. Elizabeth (Guess) Mitchell in Madill, OK. He departed from this life on January 25, 2017 in Ardmore.

Hershell was raised in Ringling by his siblings attending school in Claypool. At the age of 17, he entered the Military serving in WW II during the Battle of Guadalcanal, the Battle of Tarawa and the Battle of Saipan. Hershell was awarded 2 purple hearts, the Presidential Unit Citation and other numerous medals. He was honorably discharged in 1945. On February 15, 1945, Hershell married the former Lois Thacher and to this union they were blessed with 5 children, Ronnie, Jerry, H.L., Jimmy and Mary.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Pauline, Jessie, Tessie and Anna Bee; brothers, Clayton and V.D.; sons, H.L Mitchell and Jimmy Ray Mitchell; daughter, Mary Loyis Gregg and grandson, Gary Don Mitchell.

Hershell is survived by his sons, Jerry Mitchell and wife Cheryl of Ringling and Ronnie Mitchell and wife Teresa of Ringling; adopted son, Stephen Mitchell; 12 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

Casket bearers will be Jody Mitchell, Randy Mitchell, Steven Mitchell, Forrest Mitchell, Dakota Mitchell and Randy Hunt.
