Ringling – Funeral Services for Mr. Hershel Durwood Wooley, 85, of Ringling are scheduled for 1:00 PM Saturday June 1, 2013 at Alexander Funeral Home Chapel of Ringling with Cross Timbers Chaplain Matt Benedick officiating and Caregiver Brenda Higgins assisting. Burial will follow at the Hillcrest Memorial Park of Ardmore.
Mr. Hershel Wooley crossed over to be with the Lord on Wednesday May 29th, 2013 after an extended illness. He was born January 9th, 1928 to Lawrence Wooley and Vera (Cox) Wooley in Ralls, Texas. While still a young child, his mother passed away and he was raised by his paternal grandparents throughout the rest of his childhood.
He attended high school in Brownfield, Texas where he met the love of his life during his senior year. Soon afterward, they were married and together, they raised 3 children.
He and his family lived in Dallas where he was employed by John Meyer's Pump Service for several years, repairing gasoline tanks before moving to Ringling in 1972. There, he was employed by the Ringling Public School system for a time and later worked at PETCO Tool Rentals in Healdton for the rest of his career until retiring in 1994.
His hobby was woodcutting, especially holiday yard ornaments, but his passion was telling others about Christ. He was a member of the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Ringling.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Ruby LaFern “Fern” (Cassity) on January 23, 1998.
He is survived by two daughters, Laura Schultz of Ringling, Sharon Holder and husband Bill of Healdton and a son, Richard of Columbus, Ohio. Two sisters, Margie Baldwin of Arlington, TX and Judy Carron of Phoenix, AZ; Brother, Kenneth of Wickenburg, Arizona. 2 granddaughters, Amy Reyes and her husband, Luis of Duncan and Rebecca Holder of Baytown, TX; 4 great-grandchildren, Hayden, Devan, Isabella and Caden; Numerous other family and friends.
Pallbearers are Mike Moore, Terry Dale Morris, Patrick Nicholson, Luis Reyes, Donnie Miller and Zane Gray.
Honorary Bearers are Hayden Reyes, Devan Reyes and Caden Holder.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please make donations to the American Heart Association National Center 7272 Greenville Avenue Dallas, TX 75231.
Family visitation is scheduled from 6-8 PM Friday evening at the funeral home in Ringling.
