Helen "Maudine" Herrell

January 5, 1920 — March 9, 2018

Mrs. Helen Maudine Herrell, of Wilson, was born January 5, 1920 in Wilson to the late Mr. John Bell Horn and Mrs. Rhoda Elizabeth (Peck) Horn. She departed this life Friday, March 9, 2018 in Norman at the home of her daughter and son in law, Bill and Helen Haynes at the age of 98 years, 4 months, and 2 days. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00P.M. Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at the First Baptist Church in Wilson with Rev. Mark Fuller officiating. Interment will follow in the Hewitt Cemetery. Services are under the direction and care of Alexander Funeral Home in Wilson, OK.


Maudine was born and raised in Wilson and lived all of her life in this area until moving to Norman in 2013 to be near her daughter and grandchildren. She married Mr. Ross V. “Babe” Herrell on July 8, 1939. Together they were blessed with two children Terry and Helen.


Mrs. Herrell worked in several retail businesses in Wilson until Babe retired in 1969 and they built and operated Terry’s Drive In along with their son Terry for several years. Maudine was a founding member of the Wilson Historical Society and Museum where she was honored as Volunteer of the year in 2004 and in 2005 she was honored as Friend of the Museum. She was also active in RSVP and received the Dept. of Human Services Regional and State Volunteer award in 2004. Mrs. Herrell was always known for helping her community and would deliver meals on wheels, help at the library, and was a very active member of the First Baptist Church in Wilson and loved her Sunday school class. She enjoyed their many activities and trips.


Preceding her in death are her parents; husband, Babe Herrell on July 15, 1992; son, Terry Herrell on April 28, 1988; brothers, Asa, Kenneth, J.B., Herbert, Almen Dell “Knox”, and Henry Horn; sisters, Bertha Land, Lillie Haynes, and Lola Cicia;


Mrs. Herrell is survived by her daughter and son in law, Helen and Bill Haynes of Norman; grandchildren, Bobby Norton of Noble and his girlfriend Christie Woodrow of Norman, Holly Chronister and husband John of Noble; great grandchildren, Rachel Chronister of Noble, Amber Wade and husband Mitchell of Foley, AL; sisters, Maxine Clark of Wilson, Ella Jean Herell of Bryan, TX; several beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.


Serving as Casket Bearers are Tim Brown, Mike Beavers, Gary Beavers, Andy Herrell, John Chronister, and Mel Reinders.


The family would like to express their gratitude to the wonderful caregivers with Faith Hospice, special appreciation to Kim and Shelly for their dedicated care and to Michael for the comfort and prayer he brought to the family.


Family visitation will be held from 6 to 8 P.M. Monday evening at the Alexander Funeral Home Chapel in Wilson.
