Ringling - Funeral Services for Mr. Harvey Gene Grant, 82, of Ringling are scheduled for 10 AM Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at the Ringling United Methodist Church of Ringling. Interment will follow at the Belleville Bourland Cemetery in Courtney. Services are under the direction of Alexander Funeral Home of Ringling.
Harvey was born on October 14, 1933 at Petersburg to the late Mr. Sherman Hailey Grant and Mrs. Eula Mae (Huff) Grant. He went to be with his Lord and Savoir Friday evening Feb. 26, 2016 at a healthcare facility in Ardmore.
Harvey was raised at Petersburg attending school there and at Courtney. He graduated from High School at Courtney as valedictorian in 1951. Harvey went to work for Southerland Well Service before being drafted into the United States Army during the Korean War. He served honorably and recieved his discharge in 1957. He returned back to this area joining his wife, the former, Retha Griffin, whom he married on March 26, 1955 at Ardmore.
Harvey worked most his adult life in the energy sector, working at refineries and was a plant superintendent at numerous locations. He could do almost anything to make a living, owning and operating several different business.
Harvey and Retha retired and moved back to Courtney in the early 90's. He loved being back on the farm on the Red River. They became very active in the communities where Harvey loved visiting with all of his family and friends.
Most of all, Harvey was proud of his relationship with the Lord. He loved the Lord with his whole being and always enjoyed fellowship with others. Harvey passed peacefully and joyfully with all of his family at his side. He was currently a member of the Marietta First Baptist Church.
Preceding him in death were his Parents; and sisters, Nelda Grant and Glenda Vinson.
Survivors include his loving wife Retha of the home; sons, Micheal Grant and wife Diana of Comfort, TX and Mark Grant and Dana Snyder of Longview, TX; daughter, Michelle Hammock and husband Lindsey of Dumas, TX; sisters, Marie Dewbre of Tishomingo and Lana Ball of Fritch, TX; brothers, Sherman Dean "Cotton" Grant and wife Jacqueline of Courtney, Hack Grant and wife Joann, Darrell Grant and wife Linda, all of Lone Grove; 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; a special friend and little angel, Shelly Milson; numerous nieces and nephews and other family.
Casket Bearers Matthew Grant, Brady Grant, Sammy Collins, Chris Grant, Alex Vinson and Todd Collett.
Honorary Bearers are Tankie Spivey, Bryan Spivey, Larry Blankenship, Denver Weatherly and Larry Chapman.
Memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society in memory of Harvey.
Family visitation will be held from 6 to 8 pm Monday evening at Alexander Funeral Home of Ringling.
