Ringling – Funeral Services for Mr. Harry Holt Goodman, 87, of Ringling are scheduled for 2:00 PM Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at the Ringling United Methodist Church with Rev. Alex Costea officiating. Interment will follow at the Ringling Memorial Cemetery. Services are under the care and direction of Alexander Funeral Home of Ringling.
Harry was born September 15, 1926 to the late Mr. Ernest Cleo Goodman and Osa Ann (Holt) Goodman. He departed this life on Wednesday afternoon December 4, 2013 at Ringling.
Harry was raised at Ringling graduating from Ringling High School in 1944. He joined the United States Army Air Corps at the end of WWII and served honorably as an aviation cadet. He attended college at Stillwater, Oklahoma A& M, where he studied horticulture. There he met Vonda Jean Stewart and they became united in marriage on June 29, 1947. They made their home together in Ringling. Harry worked in Oilfield and then the Ringling National Bank before owning his first grocery business in 1955. His first grocery store was located on main street of Ringling and it later moved to where present R.J’s convenient store is now before he built its present location in 1984. Throughout the years, everyone has come accustomed to being greeted with a friendly smile at Harry’s Super Foods of Ringling.
Harry was always a very generous and loving man. He cared about the community of Ringling, serving on several boards and committees throughout the years. He was a family man, loving Husband, Father and Grandfather. He was always faithful to the Ringling United Methodist Church and had deep commitment to the Masonic Lodge, just recently receiving his 60 year pin. He taught Sunday school class for many years and was involved at every Men’s Breakfast. Harry loved to visit and joke around with everyone and was an avid hunter and fisherman and he loved playing golf.
Preceding him in death is his Parents; Wife, Vonda Jean on April 17, 2000; Son Richard “Rick” Goodman in 1982; and a Sister Gayle Hooper.
Survivors include a Son, Randy Goodman and wife Rebecca of Ringling; Grandchildren, Stephen, Whitney, Lauren and Robbie; Great Grandchildren, Jaceline and Natalie; Daughter in law Terri Frost of Yukon; Special Friend and companion, Mildred Roberts of Ringling; Brother, Jerry Goodman of Ashdown, AR; Brothers in law, Frank Stewart and Kent Stewart; Several nieces, nephew and cousins; and all his past & present employees whom Harry always considered to be part of his family.
Casket Bearers will be Tom Hildebrandt, Mike Brooks, Tommy Hildebrandt, Lavelle Engle, Bill Stroud, Mark Morris and Mike Moore.
Honorary Bearers are Mike Wilborn, Marland Vance, Sherle Lockwood, Douglas Farris, Jack Hagood and all of Harry’s Hale- Halsell friends.
Donations in memory of Harry may be made to the Ringling United Methodist Church PO Box 247 Ringling, OK 73456.
Family visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm Monday evening at the funeral home in Ringling.
