Gilbert Agustin Ortiz-Cruz

December 18, 1945 — February 5, 2021

Mr. Gilbert Agustin Ortiz-Cruz, of Healdton, departed this life on Friday, February 5, 2021 at the Duncan Regional Hospital at the age 75 years, 1 month, and 18 days. Funeral Services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at the First Freewill Baptist Church in Healdton with Bro. Jimmy May and Bro. Chris Lindsay officiating. Interment will follow in the Dixie Cemetery in Stephens County.

Gilbert was born in Oaxaca, Mexico to the late Mr. Pedro Ortiz and Mrs Enriqueta Cruz-Ortiz.

After graduating high school in Mexico City, Gilbert joined the Mexican National Defense Forces. He attended college in Mexico City for two years. Gilbert came to the United States when he was 21 for a boxing competition. He was a excellent athlete and a Champion boxer. He and Kay Roberts were married on March 19, 1977 in Gillette, WY. Together they made their home in Healdton. Gilbert loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter. He worked in the oilfield for several years doing many different jobs from driving trucks, working on rigs, and pumping. He was a hard worker that was always going from sunrise to dawn. He was of the Baptist Faith and a member of the Freewill Baptist Church. Gilbert and Kay enjoyed traveling and square dancing. He was a member the Oddfellows lodge, Murray County Tractor Club, and Southern Circle Square Dancers.The final bell has rang , the match is over with a record of 126 and 3 another victorious fight for him. He fought a good fight with Jesus as his corner man.

Gilbert is preceded in death by his parents, a sister Inez; brothers, Moises Ortiz, Israel Ortiz, and a nephew, Robert Pedro Ortiz.

He leaves to cherish his memory wife, Kay (Roberts) Ortiz of the home; sons, Chris Sparks and wife Carone of Healdton; Dusty Sparks and wife Crystal of Lone Grove, Tony Ortiz of Mexico City; Ricky Ortiz and Conni of Healdton; brother, Juan Ortiz and wife Claudia of Mexico City; sisters, Lupe, and Sara from Sola Mexico; Margarita and Sofia of Mexico City; and a bonus mother, Bertha of Mexico City; nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Serving as casket bearers will be Ricky Ortiz, Hayden Ortiz, Dillon Sparks, Cooter Pender, Tracy Steele, and Shannon Steele.

Honorary casket bearers will be Gilbert "Gib" Blevins and the members of the Southern Circle Square Dance Club.
