Wilson

Wilson - Funeral Services for Mr. Gary Joe "Legs" Idleman Sr., 70, of Wilson are scheduled for 2:00 P.M., Saturday, March 8, 2025 at First Baptist Church in Wilson with Rev. Mark Fuller officiating and reading of obituary by Stan Harris. Interment will follow at Bomar Point Cemetery in Wilson. Services are under the care of Alexander Gray Funeral Home in Wilson.

Gary was born January 15, 1955 in Pauls Valley, Ok to the late Mr. Billy Joe Idleman and Mrs. Clara Mae (Owen) Idleman. He went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, March 3, 2025 at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City, Ok.

Gary was a very active youngster, doing the usual boy things, and had a knack for “ruffling other people’s feathers”. He had an appreciation for the outdoors; enjoying hunting, fishing and helping his grandpa Owen with chores on the farm. As a teenager, he took an interest in rodeoing and breaking horses. He attended school at Story from first through eighth grades. Then he went to Maysville High School, where he participated in sports and FFA, graduating in 1973. Shortly after graduation, Gary began his lengthy career at Uniroyal/Michelin, where he retired after 30 years of service. Gary married Tommi Sue Isaacs on June 14, 1980 at the First Baptist Church in Wilson. Together they made their home in Wilson, where they raised their three children; Stacy, Danah and Gary Joe. They were a very busy and active family from work schedules, attending church, sports events, and other school/community activities. Gary coached Gary Joe‘s T-ball/baseball teams and they spent numerous hours at the Wilson ballfields in the summertime. Gary was an avid Wilson Eagles fan and a proud supporter of the Wilson FFA program. He loved his OU Sooners as well as the Dallas Cowboys, although he stayed aggravated at them. Gary was a fan of John Wayne and enjoyed watching old westerns. He collected guns and old lanterns.

After Gary‘s retirement, he enjoyed baling hay (in an air conditioned tractor) and raising cows. His leisure time was often spent playing dominoes with his buddies at Gary Don’s. Gary was most known for aggravating his family and friends, telling stories and reminiscing about the old days. Gary made lots of memories with his family and friends which will be cherished by all. He was an active member of First Baptist Church Wilson.

Preceding him in death are his parents; brother, Stanley Idleman; grandson, Tyler “Reyse” Johnson; mother-in-law, Sammie Isaacs; brothers-in-law, Mike Isaacs and Norman Griffin.

Gary is survived by his wife, Tommi Sue; daughters, Stacy McMahan (Lynn); Danah Hoose (Hans); son, Gary Joe Idleman Jr. (Te); Jason and Jarad Dillard; grandchildren, Lane McMahan (Natalie); Landon Utt (Chloe); Garrett McMahan (McKenna); his favorite grandgirl, Hadley Jo Idleman; and Tate Idleman; great grandchildren, Oaklan and Henry McMahan.
