Felbert Wilson "Sonny" Firestone

February 24, 1934 — February 19, 2023

Velma – Home going services for Mr. Felbert Wilson “Sonny” Firestone, 88 of Velma are scheduled for 11:00 am Thursday, February 23, 2023 at the First Baptist Church of Velma with Rev. Roger Sims and Rev. Kerry Glasgow officiating. Interment will follow at the Alma Cemetery. Services are under the care and direction of Alexander Gray Velma Chapel.

Sonny was born February 24, 1934 at Countyline to the late Mr. Albin L. Firestone, Sr. and Mrs. Oma May (Albertson) Firestone. He went to his heavenly home on Sunday morning, Feb. 19, 2023 at Duncan.

Sonny was raised in Graham where he attended school. He began farming to help support his family at a very early age which led to a great work ethic his entire life. Sonny married the former Ms. Joyce Bohannan on Aug. 20, 1954 at Marietta, Love County, OK.

They resided at Santa Fe for 12 years, then moving to Velma in 1966. Not many years later in 1969, Sonny and Joyce established Sonny’s Tank Truck Service. Together they built a striving business servicing the oilfield transport needs of the Velma area, selling the business in 1973. Since, Sonny had many other occupations, ranging from small engine repair to being a car salesman.

Sonny cherished a great relationship with Todd Clark, when he had worked with Clark Oil Co. and many others throughout his years. He enjoyed fishing and just trying to figure out how everything worked, even if it meant dismantling it and then gluing it back together. Sonny was baptized at the age of 20 at Skelly’s Lake and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Velma.

Preceding him in death are his parents; sister, Daphne Bowden and most recently a brother, Albin L. “Monk” Firestone, Jr.

Survivors include his loving wife Joyce “Nonnie” Firestone of the home; daughters, Sunnie Gail Messersmith and husband Gil of Duncan and Hope Gilmore and husband Tom of Collinsville; brother, Keith Firestone of Alma; sister, Betty Humphrey and husband Charles of Aledo, TX; grandchildren, Sumer McLain and husband Josh, Lyndsey Rollins, Wil Messersmith and wife Carly and Loren Williams and husband Derek; 9 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews and other family.

Casket bearers are Gil Messersmith, Tom Gilmore, Josh McLain, Wil Messersmith, Todd Clark and C.J. Powell.

Honorary bearers are Derek Williams, Blace Rollins , Bruce Lynn, Tom Saville, L.D. Keenan, Tom Firestone, Allen Firestone and Scott Sides.

Family visitation will be held from 5 to 7pm Wednesday evening at Alexander Gray Velma Chapel.
