Cheek - Funeral Services for Mrs. Ethel Marie (Smith) Nichols, 85, of Lone Grove are scheduled for 10:00 am Wed. Dec. 6, 2017 at the Cheek Baptist Church with Rev. Morgan Ashworth officiating and Rev. Leonard Nichols assisting. Interment will follow at the Hewitt Cemetery of Wilson. Services are under the care and direction of Alexander Funeral Home of Wilson.
Ethel was born on July 30, 1932 at Mercedes, TX to the late Mr. Jesse Bushrod Smith and Mrs. Viola Brenus (Minor) Smith. She departed this life on Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017 at the hospital in Ardmore.
Ethel was raised at south Texas near Harlingen, TX. She was united in marriage to Mr. E.L. "Nick" Nichols on Feb. 21, 1949 at Mercedes, TX. They moved frequently following the Oil Patch settling in this area in 1960.
Ethel was employed outside the home at several local businesses before working as a credit relation officer at the Ardmore Credit Bureau for 30 years. She retired in 1999 and spent her spare time caring for others. She enjoyed attending the Cheek Baptist Church and helping with Vacation Bible School. She loved crocheting,making dolls, enjoyed reading and traveling.
Her husband Nick preceded her in death on April 6, 1987. Also preceding her in death are her parents; brother, Bill Smith; grandson, Joe Michael Williams, Jr. and Infant great grandchildren, Mikey Isaacs and Kyra Walls.
Survivors include her daughters, Peggy Lowery of Tulsa and Denise Williams of Velma; sons, Lee Nichols and wife Marsha of Lone Grove, David Nichols and wife Gwen of Dewey and Ronnie Nichols and wife Annette of Stratford; sisters, Ruth Lewis of Eunice, NM and Elsie Lewis of Comanche; brother, Brad Smith of Alamo, TX; 14 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild; numerous other family, church family and friends.
Casket Bearers are Chad Nichols, Kevin Nichols, Casey Sullivan, David Nichols, Steven Lowery, Bobby Williams, Adam Nichols, Christopher Nichols and Joshua Nichols.
Honorary Bearers are all the Men of the Cheek Baptist Church.
Family visitation will be held from 6 pm to 8 pm Tuesday evening at the funeral home in Wilson.
