Ernest Edward Mcgaughy

Reck – Funeral Services for Mr. Ernest Edward McGaughy, 84, of Reck are scheduled for 2:00 PM Friday at the Wilson Assembly of God Church of Wilson with Rev. Dustin Wright officiating. Interment will follow at Reck Cemetery south of Wilson. Services are under the direction and care of Alexander Funeral Home of Wilson.

Ernest was born January 4, 1929 at Reck, OK to the late Mr. Charlie Clayburn McGaughy and Mrs. Mary Ethel (Baucom) McGaughy. He departed this life Sunday morning August 11, 2013 at his home in Lone Grove.

Ernest was raised around Reck and Post Oak communities attending school at Zaneis. He joined the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and served honorably in the infantry, signal core and as a firefighter. He was discharged on March 23, 1953 and soon returned home in Wilson where he married the former Selma Lee Lucas on February 14, 1954 at the First Baptist Church of Wilson. They resided in California for 20 years where Ernest was employed in a fiberglass manufacturing factory. When they returned to Wilson Ernest was mostly employed in the Oilfields initially for Big Chief Trucking, then Holden Energy and lastly for Reid Williams Energy as a pumper, retiring from there just a few years ago. Selma preceded him in death on October 20, 2012. When Ernest wasn’t working he enjoyed being outdoors working in his garden and during his younger years enjoyed playing the fiddle. He also was a very accomplished artist loving to paint landscapes and he always was doing carpentry projects.

In addition to Selma, also preceding him in death are his Parents; Son, Lee Edward McGaughy- June 26, 2009; Infant Son, Shawn; Sisters, Bernice Phillips, Darlene Temple, Amanda Burks and Stella Mae Lemons; Brothers, Lawrence Dunigan, Clarence Dunigan and Fred McGaughy.

Survivors include his Daughters, Heather Smith and Husband Craig of Lone Grove, Amanda Harris and husband Eddie of Vale, OR and Linda Chaney and husband Melvin of Wilson; Sister, Betty Shamblee of Madill; Brother, Clifford McGaughy and wife Anna of Wilson; Grandchildren, Kaden Smith, Jason Harris and wife Renee, David Harris and wife Kristi and Josh Chaney; 6 Great Grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be Sonny Grissom, Jim McGaughy, Craig Smith, Bill Leasure, Gary Lucas, and Greg Morgan.

Honorary Bearers are Travis Phillips, Melvin Chaney, C.G. Burks, Clifford McGaughy, Gary Smith, Gibb Mason, Josh Chaney and Reid Williams.

Family visitation will be held from 7 to 8 pm Thursday evening at the funeral home in Wilson.
