Ringling- Memorial services will be held for Ella Mae Hammons, 78, of Ringling along with her beloved husband Bobby J. Hammons are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 31, 2012, at the Ringling Memorial Cemetery Pavilion with Rev. Joe Taylor officiating. Services are under the care and direction of Alexander Funeral Home & Crematory of Ringling.
Ella Mae Folsom Hammons was born May 22, 1933 to William Eugene and Dollie Mae Morris Folsom. Ella passed away Thursday, March 29 at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City Ella lived the majority of her life in the Ringling area. She attended school at Ringling and left early to marry. She eventually obtained her GED and was very proud of this accomplishment. During her lifetime she held many jobs, waitress, caretaker, and worked at the Ringling Wrangler Pants factory as a seamstress. Her favorite job was restoring furniture. She loved to go junking and turn trash into antiques. Ella was an active member of her community. She had a founding role in the Ringling Chamber of Commerce. As a member she received many awards. Past President award, Most active member award, Ken Ploof Memorial award, and Community Service award. Ella never missed the opportunity to make Ringling a better place to live. She was also chosen as the parade marshall of the Western Days Parade and joined by her grands and great grands in the parade.
Ella was not only active in her community but also in politics. She was a long time Ronald Reagan Republican and was even invited to the innagruation ball. She loved education and encouraged all of her grandchildren to further their education.
She was a constant care giver for her grandchildren and was involved in every aspect of their lives. She had taught all of them how to spot a good buy and to appreciate old things in a new way. She loved her church family The Church on the Rock and her Pastor Joe Taylor.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby J. Hammons, both of her daughters, Linda Prentis Nell and Frieda Prentis Reid, a granddaughter, Christy Nell Patty, her parents, her brothers, W.E. , Cletus, Billy, Chris (Buster) Folsom and sisters Mary Colleen and Christine.
Ella is survived by her grandchildren, Tifini Phelps, Jeremy and Cody Nell and their children and spouses. Michelle Moore, Brandon Reid, Amy Lowe and their children and spouses. She had numerous nieces and nephews, and cousins. She will also be missed by her long -time friends Melissa Grace, Patty Wilson and Syble Stanton.
Memorials can be made to the Ringling Food Pantry care of the Ringling Methodist Church.
