Dwain Benson Blackburn

Wilson - Funeral Services for Mr. Dwain Benson " Chick" Blackburn, 83, of Wilson is scheduled for 2:00 PM Sunday March 4, 2018 at the Alexander Funeral Home Chapel of Wilson with Rev. Felix Hernandez officiating. Interment will follow at Hewitt Cemetery of Wilson.

Dwain was born on January 7, 1935 at Wilson to the late Mr. Benjamin Franklin "Benny" Blackburn and Mrs. Lorene Elizabeth (Dethloff) Blackburn. He departed this life Friday morning March 2, 2018 at his home south of Wilson.

Dwain was raised south of Wilson raising peanuts with his family. He attended school at Wilson before working for Hobart Wilson on cable tool rigs where he ran the Krummies. Dwain married the former Patsy Ruth Hendrix on March 25, 1954. To this union they were blessed with a son, David and a daughter Elaine"Dot".

He was employed for Nickels Drilling where he worked Derick's and drove a truck hauling rigs and oilfield equipment. Dwain left the Oil Patch when he became a custodian and bus driver for Wilson Public Schools for 12 years and afterwards went back to the Oil Field working as a contract Pumper for many production companies of the area. Dwain also ran a station outside of Wilson for a short while.

He and Patsy enjoyed spending time together attending square dance and Waltz competitions. Dwain also enjoyed fishing and ranching and was a past member of the Rexroat Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by his Parents, Benny and Lorene Blackburn and a daughter Glenda Elaine Blackburn who passed away on Dec. 15, 2014.

Survivors include his loving wife Patsy Ruth of the home; son, David Blackburn and wife Pam of Wilson; grandchildren, Christopher Dale Blackburn, Kara Ann Hicks and husband Jeff and Daniel Dylan Harvey and wife Summer; great grandchildren, Lexis Rae Ann Hicks, Christopher Shawn Rhyne Hicks, Bentley Faith Hicks, Daniel Paul Harvey and Dwain Dylan Harvey and one other great grandchild on the way named Glenda Rene' Harvey; numerous other family and friends.

Casket bearers are Chris Blackburn, Dylan Harvey, Jammy Shaw, Travis Powell, Aaron Martinez, Terrell Tucker, Jeff Hicks and Kyle Hacker.

Honorary Bearers are Gilbert Hacker, Elvis Dyer, Darrold Dyer and Bobby Flynn.

Family visitation will be held from 6 to 8 pm Saturday evening March 3, 2018 at the funeral home in Wilson.
