Healdton – Funeral Services for Mrs. Dorothy Dean Dixon, 83, of Fox are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Monday, February 26, 2018 at Alexander Funeral Home Chapel of Wilson with Bro. Glynn Baker officiating. Interment will follow at Dixie Cemetery north of Ringling.
Dorothy was born March 2, 1934 to the late Mr. Homer T. Elkins and Mrs. Trudie (Welch) Elkins at Ratliff City. She departed this life Thursday, February 22, 2018 in Ardmore.
Dorothy resided in the Ratliff City area and attended school at Eaves City until 4th grade. She then transferred to Fox where she graduated High School in 1951. On July 14, 1952 she married her high school best friend, Mr. Troy Don Dixon. Shortly after, Troy was called into the U. S. Army during the Korean War. He was away from home serving his country for two years and during this time Dorothy resided with her parents and was employed at the Ratliff City Lumber Yard. In 1954, Troy returned home and they moved to Healdton.
They were soon blessed with their first child Teresa Donette who was born on Sept 23, 1955 and then Susan Ann on March 20, 1957. Their family was complete with the birth of their son Dennis Dean Dixon on October 30, 1960. Dorothy was a wonderful Wife and Mother. They built their family home 5 ½ miles North of Healdton in 1957 and resided there for 60 years. Dorothy went to work for Fox Public Schools in 1969 as a school bus driver and was the grade school secretary for 10 years before serving as the high school secretary for 17 years. She retired in 1994 and her and Troy enjoyed many travels together. Their adventures included, seven cruises, visiting Hawaii, Alaska, Washington, D.C., Baton Rouge, LA and many Mission Trips to Brazil. She also enjoyed attending the horse races. Dorothy attended church at both the Fox and Healdton Baptist Churches since 1960 and had served as the Women’s Sunday School Teacher.
Preceding her in death are her Parents; husband Troy on June 14, 2014 and two daughters, Teresa Tayar and Susan Emerson.
Survivors are her son, Dennis Dean Dixon and wife Cyndee of Brock; 6 grandchildren, Aubrey Carter and husband Frank, Tiffany Tayar, Jaden Emerson and wife Cassie, Kevin Dixon, Sunne Emerson and Destiny Sloan and husband Chad; 15 Great Grandchildren and numerous other family, nieces, nephews and friends.
Casket Bearers are Jade Emerson, Frank Carter and Kevin Dixon
Family visitation will be from 3 to 5 pm Sunday at the Alexander Funeral Home of Wilson.
