Donnie "Coach" Joe Daniel

Wilson – Funeral Services for Donnie Joe “Coach” Daniel, 73, of Kingston are scheduled for 2:00 PM Monday, January 19, 2015 at the Ash Street Church of Christ in Wilson with Chris Webb officiating. Services are under the care and direction of Alexander Funeral Home of Wilson.

Donnie Joe Daniel was born July 31, 1941 at Ardmore, Oklahoma to the late Mr. Joe Henry Daniel and Mrs. Inez (Cudd) Daniel. He passed from this life Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at Kingston, Oklahoma.

Donnie grew up in Wilson being raised most of his life by Red and Isola Griffin. He attended school at Wilson and excelled in sports, football and track graduating in 1959.Donnie was 5A Region All Star Fullback and was recruited by OU until he had a knee injury. He played football at Abilene Christian College and for the semi pro team Oklahoma City Plainsman, making final cut for the Dallas Cowboy’s as a kicker. Donnie received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business and returned to get his Bachelor’s Degree in Education and worked towards a Master’s in Education at UCO. He and the former Ettie Darlene Riley were a couple from the time she was a freshman and he a Junior marrying after she graduated on September 8, 1961. Darlene preceded him in death May 9, 2011. Donnie worked at Western Electric in Oklahoma City after leaving UCO. They moved to Newcastle in 1970 where he was a Little League Football Coach. He had a very successful 17 year career in the car industry and built Tri City Ford of Newcastle in 1984 & 1985. Donnie sold the dealership in 1986 to pursue a career in coaching so he could coach his sons. He began coaching in 1987 and spent the next 17 years coaching and teaching at Newcastle and Moore and lastly at Kingston retiring in 2005. Donnie married Karen Lynn Roberts in July 2013 at Enos Church of Christ and they made their home in Kingston . He and Karen enjoyed fishing and driving around together. Donnie remained living at the Lake and continued living at Buncombe Creek . He enjoyed his grandchildren and fishing serving as a striper guide for awhile.

In addition to his wife, Darlene, Donnie was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Inez; Granny, Cudd; Aunt and Uncle, Red and Isola Griffin.

He is survived by his wife, Karen Lynn (Roberts) of the home; Sons, Joe Brent Daniel and wife, Tammy of Ringling, Bart Ray Daniel and wife, Stacey of Newcastle and Brannon Lee Daniel and wife, Melissa of Kingston; Step-brother, J.D. Lewis and wife, Judy of Wilson; Grandchildren, Riley, Ashley, Valeri, Halie, Dalton, Dillon, Madelyn, Kelly, Kolton, Karson, Taylor and Jody; Numerous other Family and Friends


Pallbearers are Bart Ray Daniel, Brannon Lee Daniel, Joe Brent Daniel, Dalton Joe Daniel, Riley Joe Daniel and Larry McDougal.

Honorary Pallbearers are Omar Dennis, Charlie Steele, Mike Hannah, Gene Judkins, Wayne Estes and J.D. Lewis.

Family visitation will be Sunday afternoon from 2-4 PM at the Alexander Funeral Home of Wilson.
