Donald Odell Martin

Wilson - Funeral services for Mr. Donald Odell Martin, 80, of Wilson are scheduled for 2:00 PM Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at the Ash Street Church of Christ with Charlie Whitt officiating. Interment will follow at the Hewitt Cemetery of Wilson. Services are under the care and direction of Alexander Funeral Home of Wilson.

Don was born on April 6, 1937 at West Cache Creek near Walters to the late Mr. Jessie Walter Martin and Mrs. Alice Dorothy (Kittrell) Martin. He departed this life on Friday, May 12, 2017 at Ardmore.

Don was raised at Cache Creek graduating from Union Valley High School in 1955. He then joined the United States Navy and served honorably until his final discharge on Jan. 28, 1966. He married the former Ms. Jo Eva Daniels on July 7, 1962 at Wilson. .

Don worked for Stromberg Carlson of Gene Autry for many years until its closing. He then went to work for Wilson Public Schools working within the maintenance department . After he left his job at Wilson Schools, Don and his daughter Val opened and operated Val's Discount Store of Wilson for many years.

Jo Eva preceded him in death on October 26 of 2003. During this time Don wrote poetry and songs. He said God gave him the ability to write poetry and was honored to share it. He was very active in the Ash Street Church of Christ of Wilson where he served as an Elder, Song Leader and Sunday School Teacher. Don later married the former Ms. Dana Delk on Feb. 7, 2010 at Randlett. They spent many happy moments together residing mostly in Randlett.

In addition to his wife Jo Eva, also preceding him in death was his parents; brothers, L. Keith Martin, Jessie "Leon" Keith Martin and Franklin Doyle Martin and sister in law, Gloria Martin.

Survivors include his loving wife Dana of the home; daughter, Valerie Howard and husband Ralph of Wilson; son, Steve Martin and wife Lana of Wilson; sisters, Connie Pearl Doake and husband Tommy of Ratliff City and Margaret Marie Robison and husband Rod of Gore; brothers, Earl Douglas Martin, Arnold Wayne Martin and wife Dawn and Stanley Boyd Martin, all of Walters; sisters in law, Dolly Martin of Virginia and Judy Martin of Houston;grandchildren, Kayla Howard, Justin Howard and wife Desiree, Brandon Howard, Brooklyn Howard and Daniel Howard; 3 great grandchildren, Abby, Tyler and Bayler and 1 other on the way; numerous nieces, nephews and other family.

Casket Bearers are Justin Howard, Brandon Howard, Daniel Howard, R.M. Spence, Dustin Cormany and Rod Robison;

Honorary Bearers are the Men of the Ash Street Church of Christ, Dave Cormany, Larry Jones, Doug Martin, Stanley Martin, Arnold Martin and Tommy Doake.

Family visitation will be from 6:30 to 8:00 pm Monday evening at Alexander Funeral Home of Wilson.
