Wilson – Services for Mrs. Delma Jean (Ledford ) Harris, 89, of Wilson are scheduled for 2:00 PM Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at the First Baptist Church of Wilson with Dr. Robert L. Wilson officiating. Interment will follow at the Hewitt Cemetery of Wilson. Services are under the care and direction of Alexander Funeral Home.
Delma was born February 16, 1924 at Sasakwa to the late Mr. Leonard Ira Ledford and Mrs. Opal (Hudson) Ledford. She departed this life Saturday morning August 10, 2013 at the Mercy hospital in Ardmore.
Delma was raised primarily in Oklahoma near Sasakwa relocating frequently following the Oil Patch. She married Mr. Danny Whiteman in 1940 and to this union came two children, Della and Theresia. While residing in Carmi, Illinois, Danny tragically preceded her in death on December 28, 1944. Delma continued to reside in Illinois not moving to Wilson, Ok until the early 1950’s. Along the way she welcomed her three other children into her arms, Toni, Terry, and Lana. Delma was a very hardworking and successful business woman. She owned and operated Harris Dry Goods in Wilson for many years and was an excellent seamstress. She loved to cook and enjoyed watching NASCAR every Sunday. She also enjoyed Bingo and was always lending a hand to all of her family. She most recently retired from Della’s Convenient Store of Wilson 7 years ago and was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Wilson.
Preceding her in death are her Parents; 1 Infant Brother; Sister, Christine Hardy; 3 Brothers, Cleatus Lee, H.L. and Floyd; and Aunt Iva McDonald whom raised her.
Survivors include her Children, Della Updike and husband Ken and Theresia Sanner both of Wilson; Toni Cain of Oklahoma City, Terry Cain and wife Linda of Tonkawa and Lana Barnes and husband Timothy of Wilson; Sister, Glenda Craig of Midwest City; 12 Grandchildren, 26 Great Grandchildren and 20 Great Great Grandchildren with 3 others on the way. Numerous other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Grandsons, Ricky Sanner, Jimmy Don Sanner, Shannon Sanner, Danny Battles, Clay Battles and K.C. Carlile.
Family visitation will be held from 6-8 pm Monday evening at Alexander Funeral Home of Wilson
