David Lawrence Black, Sr.

Funeral Services for David Lawrence Black, Sr., 89, of Burneyville, are scheduled for 2:00 P.M., Monday, July 13, 2015, at the Rubottom Baptist Church with Rev. Ryan Eakins officiating. Interment will follow at Jimtown Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Alexander Funeral Home in Wilson.


David was born in Pike, OK on March 14, 1926, to John and Mattie (Abney) Black. He passed away Wednesday, July 8, 2015, in Mercy Health/ Love County Hospital.


He attended school at Courtney and was drafted into the military in March of his senior year. He served our country in WWII in Germany. After spending 2 years in the Army, he came home, bought a tractor and started farming. He and the former Jessie Hallum were married November 13, 1948 in Gainesville, TX.

Over the years he raised hogs, cows, grain and peanuts. He was very proud to be the first farmer in the West End of Love County to own a peanut combine. He retired in 1989 and always found something to keep him busy after retirement. He enjoyed going to basketball games, hunting, fishing, trips to Branson and raising huge gardens. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the DAV.


Preceding him in death was his son, Lawrence Black; parents, John and Mattie (Abney) Black and siblings, Wesley Black, Homer Black, Audrey Hearell, Ethel Walden, Virginia Black and Evelyn Proffer and a great grandson, Elijah Rice.


Survivors include wife, Jessie of the home, son, Dr. Charles Black and wife Ann of Ardmore, grandchildren; Laura Black of Ardmore, Kylene Seele and husband, Kyle of Flower Mound, and Lynzi Rice and husband, Nathan of Edmond and John Black of Norman; great-children, Derrick, Brooke and Trent Seele and Presley Rice; brother-in-law, Rayford Hallum, sister-in-law, Linda Schwartz and numerous other family and friends.


Pallbearers are Terry Hearell, Odis Hearell, Greg Hallum, Ronald Hallum, Rodney Black, Ronald Rhoades, Kyle Seele and Nathan Rice.


Honorary pallbearers are Toney Hearell, Rayford Hallum, Sonny Hartman, Gene Rhoades, Jack Hartman, Paul Hallum and Troy Edwards.


The family wishes to express gratitude to Jean, Felicia, Cierra and Margaret who provided diligent, thoughtful care to him through the final year of his life.


Family visitation will be Sunday from 5-7 pm at Alexander Funeral Home in Wilson.
