Ringling - Funeral Services for Mr. David Dale Cathey, 82, of Ringling are scheduled for 10:00 am Monday, August 17, 2015 at the First Baptist Church in Ringling with Rev. Mike Williams officiating. Interment will follow at the Ringling Memorial Cemetery with full Military Honors conducted by the Chickasaw Nation Military Color Guard. Services are under the care and direction of Alexander Funeral Home in Ringling.
David Dale Cathey was born November 3, 1931 in Ryan , Oklahoma to parents David Rollin Cathey and Gertrude Amanda (Smith) Cathey. He was the third of six children born to Dave and Gertie Cathey. Dale passed away August 11, 2015, at the age of 82 years, in Healdton, Oklahoma.
Some of Dale’s fondest childhood memories were of growing up and playing with brother, Charles while looking for Indian arrowheads in Greenwood, Texas. Also, of growing up as a teenager after the family moved from Texas to Mountain Home, Oklahoma, in 1946. Dale graduated from Ringling High School in 1951. Mr. Topping, debate teacher and class sponsor, took the graduating seniors that year on a class trip to Mexico City.
Dale graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1956 with a degree in Geology, immediately taking his first professional job with Core Lab in northern New Mexico, for a couple of years. He then became an insurance adjuster for Allstate Insurance Company, first in Lubbock, then in Odessa, in west Texas, and later for CNA Insurance in Dallas, Texas. He then found his true calling becoming an 18 wheeler long-haul truck driver for over twenty years. Dale was very proud of the fact that he had a perfect accident free driving record.
After Dale completed his Army active duty service, stateside, in Ft. Belvoir, Virginia, he was in the Army Reserves many years, attaining the rank of Major.
Dale and Shirley Rosa Sifuentes were united in marriage in Dallas, Texas in July of 2007. His two step-children are daughter, Andrea Sifuentes, and son, Harold Sifuentes, of Lima, Peru.
Dale was preceded in death by both parents and two sisters, Emma Jean Cathey, of Ringling and Pauline Leota Daugherty of Oklahoma City.
Also predeceasing him, brother Charles Eugene Cathey, of Hamilton, Montana.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley, of the home; sister, JoAn Evelyn Cross of Las Vegas, Nevada; brother, Jerry Lee Cathey, of Ponca City; nieces, Wynona Duff of Grand Prairie, Texas, Karen Cross, MD, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Diane Daugherty of Oklahoma City, and Cheryl Cross of Los Angeles, California; first cousin, Leona (Bonham) Crain, of Decatur; close friends, Hector and Reyna Martinez of Arlington, Texas and their children, Leslie, Halie, Lily, and Hector, Jr.; numerous other extended family members and friends. Dale befriended many and performed many acts of kindness as he passed through this earthly life.
Family Visitation will be held from 2-4pm on Sunday at the Alexander Funeral Home in Ringling.
Pallbearers are Gary Thompson, Larry Thompson, Joe Roberts, Lester Vansill, Thad Kassheimer, and Bob McKay.
The family wishes to acknowledge the many acts of kindness and support of the Ringling townspeople and friends, at this sad time. A special thanks to the Doctors, Nurses and staff of Mercy Hospital, Ardmore, Oklahoma and Mercy Hospital, Healdton, Oklahoma for their medical expertise and commendable care.
