Wilson - Services for Mr. David Alfred (Dave) Shores, 92, of Wilson will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct, 23, 2016, at the First Baptist Church of Wilson, and the service will be officiated by his grandson, Reverend Tyler Shores. Interment will follow at the Hewitt Cemetery in Wilson. Services are under the care and direction of Alexander Funeral Home of Wilson.
Dave was born July 28, 1924, to the late Alfred and Myrtle Beck Shores in Wilson. He went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2016, in Ardmore, Okla., with his family by his side.
Dave grew up with his brothers at their home north of Wilson. He attended school at Rexroat and later served in the United States Army. He first married the Melba Sasnett and later married the love of his life Pauline Stearns in 1958 and they spent 54 years together.
Dave was extremely active in the Wilson community. He was one of the founding members of the Wilson All Sports Club in 1968 and served as the organization’s president for over 10 years. He and Pauline also helped start the Wilson Restoration Committee and the Wilson Alumni Association, and he served as the Street Commissioner in Wilson for many years. Dave started the Southern Oklahoma Coon Hunter’s Association and enjoyed hunting with his friends and sons.
Dave will be remembered for his humor and his pride in his grandchildren. He spent countless hours campaigning for local political candidates and loved watching the Oklahoma Sooners, Texas Rangers and Dallas Cowboys on TV.
Preceding him in death are his parents, his wife Pauline Shores, and his brother J.W. (Peewee) Shores.
Survivors include daughters Judith Shores of Tulsa, and Darlene Kennedy and husband Wayne of Lone Grove, and sons, Mike Thompson and wife Denise of Velma, and David Shores and wife Jan of Wilson; his grandchildren, Ron Henderson and wife Cathleen, Dustin Kennedy and wife Julie, Billy Hensley III and wife Tresley, Kim Kennedy, Michael Shores and wife Janet, Tyler Shores and Micah Thompson; great grandchildren Megan Henderson, Aidan Henderson, Carson Kennedy, Billy Hensley IV, Noah Shores, Ella Shores and Ella Hensley; his brother Jack Shores; and two special friends Johnny Carl Crutchfield and Jeff Ratcliffe.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons and nephews.
Honorary pallbearers are Jeff Ratcliffe, Johnny Carl Crutchfield and Thomas Cox.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Saturday at the Alexander Funeral Home in Wilson.
