Wilson – Funeral Services for Mrs. Cretera “June” (Wilson) Stewart 87, former City Clerk of Wilson are scheduled for 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church of Wilson with Rev. Greg Tene and Pastor Waylon Dancer officiating. Interment will follow at the Hewitt Cemetery beside her husband Junior . Services are under the care and direction of Alexander Funeral Home of Wilson.
Cretera “June” (Wilson) Stewart was born March 27, 1927 at Wilson, Oklahoma to Mr. Leonard Alvin Wilson and Mrs. Essie Dee (Webb) Wilson. She passed from this life Sunday, January 11, 2015 in Wilson.
June was the fifth of seven children. She started her first years of school in Madill moving to Illinois and then back to Wilson where she graduated Class of 1945. While attending school June played basketball and was pitcher for the softball team continuing these activities later in life. June married Mr. Ollie “Junior” Stewart on April 6, 1946 at Healdton. Together they made their home in Wilson and raised their two daughters Linda June and Glenda Sue saying that this was the happiest moments of her life and she was so thankful to God for giving her these blessings. June started her first job at 15 working for the Wackers nickel and dime and as a clerk for several other stores. Later June worked for the City of Wilson as City Clerk for 14 years also owning a service station with Junior for 5 years. She had joined the Methodist Church when she was 13 and had been an active member ever since. June was a member of the Eastern Star, R.S.V.P., AARP and was an advisor on the Rainbow Girls board. She worked to get the Senior Citizen Building of Wilson established and was the Secretary and Treasurer of the Hewitt & Bomar Point Cemetery Association from 1964 to 2014. Her family meant the world to June and the name speaks for itself when it comes to her grandkids and great grandkids.
June was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Essie (Webb) Wilson; Husband, Ollie “Junior” Stewart, Nov. 16, 1993; Sisters, Ione Edgeman and Brothers, Glenn, Dowell , Hobart and Robert “Bob” Wilson.
She is survived by her daughters, Linda Giles and husband Gary of Healdton and Susie McCracken of Lone Grove; grandchildren, Ronald Giles, Barry Giles and wife Callie , Kilby Whitsett and husband Chris, Hannah Lempges and husband Jake and J.T. McCracken; great grandchildren, Blake Giles, Abi Giles , Morgan Whitsett, Landree Giles , Jentri Giles and one more baby girl on the way; sister –in –law, Lawana Wilson of Wilson; numerous other family, church family and friends.
Pallbearers are Ronald Giles, Barry Giles, Blake Giles, Jake Lempges, J.T. McCracken and Chris Whitsett.
Honorary Bearers are the men of the First United Methodist Church of Wilson.
The family will receive friends at the home of June Stewart in Wilson from 6 to 8 pm Tuesday evening.
