Clyde James Womack

October 19, 1942 — April 2, 2017

Velma - Memorial Services for Mr. Clyde "Rooster" James Womack, 74, of Velma are scheduled for 2:00 PM Thursday, April 6, 2017 at the Ratliff City First Baptist Church with Rev. Glynn Baker officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Chickasaw Honor Guard Team and the Patriot Guard. Cremation services are under the direction and care of Alexander Gray Velma Chapel.

Rooster was born on Oct. 19, 1942 at Comanche to the late Mr. Bob Clyde Womack and Mrs. Stella Marie (Townsend) Womack. He departed this life Sunday, April 2, 2017 at Oklahoma City.

Rooster was raised at Countyline attending school at Velma. He graduated from Velma High School in 1961 and then attended college for a short while before joining the United States Army. He joined the Army on Dec. 28, 1962 and served honorably as a parachutist for the 101st Airborne. He received his discharge on Dec. 27, 1965 at Fort Campbell, KY.

Rooster married the former Ms. Laura Cooley on June 12, 1969 at Durant. They have lived mostly within the Velma area where Rooster worked within the oil field. He was employed for several companies working from off shore rigs of Louisiana to Libya. He enjoyed the comradery of the rig crews. He was an avid gun and knife collector and he enjoyed working with his cattle. He was a member of the Countyline Baptist Church.

Preceding him in death are his Parents; brother, Terry Womack; sister, Wanema Bullard and infant daughter, Jerri Ann Womack.

Survivors include his loving wife Laura of the home; daughter, Sherri Jan Bruce and husband KC of Velma; brother, Ray Womack of Duncan; grandson Conner Bruce and numerous nieces and nephews.
