Wilson - Funeral Services for Army National Guard Retiree, Claud Oran Burris, Jr. of Wilson are scheduled for 2:00 PM Tuesday Nov. 30, 2021 at the Alexander Gray Funeral Home Chapel of Wilson with his grandson Chaplain Brandon Burris officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at the Bomar Pt. Cemetery of Wilson.
Claud Oran Burris, Jr. was born in Wilson, OK August 29, 1928 to Claud Burris, Sr. and Mary Agnes (Hoffman) Burris. He departed this world on November 25, 2021 in Ardmore, OK at the age of 93.
Claud attended Wilson schools, leaving school at the age of 18 to join the United States Army. He served in the Allied Occupation Force in Japan and in Korea. He served 7 years in the Army, upon returning home to Wilson, Claud met a friend of his sister’s, Naomi Bates. They were married on February 13, 1954 and celebrated 67 years of marriage. Claud then was recruited to work for the National Guard in Norman, retiring there in 1983. Claud and Naomi then moved back to Wilson, OK building an underground house on the property where Naomi was born. They moved to Ardmore in 2019.
Claud volunteered as Civil Defense director and was an auxiliary Wilson policeman for many years. He served as a Boy Scout leader for the Wilson troop and spent many summers at Camp Simpson teaching Boy Scouts to shoot properly. He was an avid gun collector and loved having family members come shoot targets with him.
Most of all Claud was a much-loved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle to his family. He and Naomi were blessed with three sons: Russell and wife Carol of Yukon, Randy and wife Robyn of Eufaula, and Rick of Lone Grove. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Brandon and wife Mistie of Norman, Keegan and wife Diann of Mustang, Chelsea of Magdeburg, Germany and Emily of Little Rock, Arkansas. Great-grandchildren are: Abbie, Kylie, Hayes, Cassidy, Brenton, Colton and Jackie Burris. Claud is also survived by three siblings: George Lee Webb, Pam Russell and James "Buzzard" Burris and numerous nieces
Claud was preceded in death by his mother and father, siblings Mary, Chris, Rita, Max, and Jerry.
Casket Bearers will be Janson Bazzrea, Justin Nipp, Heather Smith, Daniel Miller, Jonathan Miller and Richard Reeder.
Honorary bearers will be Ronnie Stearns, Katherine Stearns, Felix Hernandez, Roy Wagers, Kenneth Reeder, Jim Cumpton, Travis Nipp, James" Little Buzzard" Burris, Josh Nichols, Jesse Craddock, and present and past scouts of the Wilson Boy Scouts Troop 43 and Cub Scout Pack 45.
