Wilson - Charlie “Clifford” McGaughy, 96, was born on October 9, 1925, in Reck, Okla., and will return there as his final resting place. He went to his heavenly home on Tuesday, July 5, 2022, at the Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City.
Graveside services will be held Monday, July 11, 2022 at 10:00 A.M. at Reck Cemetery, with his son Rev. Jim McGaughy officiating. Visitation will be at Alexander Gray Funeral Home, Wilson, from 4-6 P.M., Sunday, July 10, 2022.
Clifford was born to Charlie Clayburn and Mary Ethel (Baucom) McGaughy. He attended school at Zaneis through the fourth grade until he left to begin working to help care for his family. Clifford met the former Anna Spoon through his sister, Amanda Burks who at the time was a coworker of Anna’s. Clifford and Anna were joined in marriage on Sept. 8, 1947, in Gainesville, Texas. They shared 71 wonderful years together on Earth and are finally reunited once again.
Clifford held several different jobs in his lifetime including farm work, road construction of Highway 70, Wilson police officer and night watchmen. Clifford enjoyed being outdoors whether it was fishing or camping. He especially enjoyed front porch sittin’ with his dog Spot. He loved to watch westerns particularly anything with his hero John Wayne. Clifford also had a love for music, especially Bluegrass. He could play any instrument he touched, including the banjo, fiddle and harmonica.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; infant son, Roy Clifford and an infant daughter, Florence Ann McGaughy; brothers, Clarence, Lawrence, Ernest and Fred; sisters, Amanda, Stella Mae, Bernice, Betty and Darlene.
Survivors include daughters, Carolyn Randolph of Wilson, Clara Morgan and husband Bill, of Healdton, and Marilyn McGaughy of Wilson; son, Jim McGaughy and wife Melody, of Wilson; 13 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren; and numerous other family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Jeremy Norton, Amy Norton, Julie Thomas, Greg Morgan, Ben Morgan, Breven Norton, and Roy Lemons. Honorary bearers will be Scott Morgan, Will Morgan, Dawson Morgan, Josh Thomas, Ricky Meyer, Christian Morgan, Kent Fondren, Brandon Christensen, and Creedence Taylor.
