Lone Grove - Mr. Charles “Steve” Rutledge, age 62 of Lone Grove departed this life on Sunday, August 12, 2018 at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City. Funeral services with military honors are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Thursday, August 16, 2018 at New Hope Freewill Baptist Church in Lone Gove with Rev. David Gardner and Rev. Morgan Ashworth officiating. Interment will follow at the Lone Grove Cemetery. Services are under the direction and care of Alexander Funeral Home of Wilson.
Mr. Rutledge was born April 1, 1956 in Ardmore, OK to Mr. Charles O. Rutledge and Mrs. Carol J. (Kelty) Rutledge.
Steve grew up in this area and attended school at Lone Grove graduating from Lone Grove High School with the Class of 1974. During his high school years he played baseball and was always proud to be a part of the ‘72 and ‘74 State Championship teams. Steve married Paula (Massey) Rutledge on May 27, 1977 at the Lone Grove First Baptist Church. Mr. Rutledge joined the Oklahoma Army National Guard on May 15, 1973 and honorably served 24 years. He was employed at Uniroyal Michelin in Ardmore for many years. Steve was an avid OU fan and loved watching OU and Dallas Cowboys football. He was also a Nascar and Dale Jr. fan.
Mr. Rutledge is preceded in death by his infant daughter, Amy Dawn Rutledge.
Steve is survived by his wife, Paula Rutledge of the home; daughter, Heather Rutledge of Lone Grove; son, Eric Rutledge of Lone Grove; parents, Charles and Carol Rutledge of Lone Grove; brothers, Kevin Rutledge and wife Ginger of Amarillo, TX, and Chad Rutledge and wife Marnie of Lone Grove; brother in law, Rick Massey and Michelle of Lone Grove; sister in law, Latricia Massey of Lone Grove; nieces and nephews, Coleton and Cassie Crockett and their daughter Parker Crockett, Derick Massey, Gavin Rutledge, Kegan Rutledge, Logan Rutledge, special cousins, Christy Krohn and daughters Halie and Shelby Krohn; great niece, Rainee Gilliland; many other relatives and a host of friends.
Serving as pallbearers will be Eric Rutledge, Mike Campbell, Rhett Lathum, Brian Krohn, Ron McCurtain, and Josh Flannagan.
Honorary pallbearers will be former teammates of the ‘72 and ‘74 State Championship Baseball Team and former co – workers at Uniroyal/Michelin.
Family visitation will be 6-8 P.M. Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at Alexander Funeral Home in Wilson.
The family request everyone wear OU attire to the services.
