Wilson - Funeral Services for Mr. Charles Ray Devenport, Sr. of Wilson are scheduled for 2:00 PM Saturday March 2, 2019 at the First Baptist Church of Wilson with Rev. Mark Fuller officiating. Interment will follow at Bomar Point Cemetery of Wilson with Military Honors. Services are under the care and direction of Alexander Gray Funeral Home of Wilson.
Charley was born on August 24, 1941 at Wichita Falls, TX to the late Mr. Homer Ray Devenport and Mrs. Lucille (Kimberlin) Devenport. He departed this life on Tuesday Feb. 26, 2019 at the hospital in Ardmore.
Charley was raised in Zaneis graduating from there in 1959. He joined the Oklahoma National Guard at Healdton in 1960 and served honorably for 18 years between Healdton and Walters Guard units as a Platoon Sgt. 1st Class. He married the former Ms. Berta Lou Choate at June 14, 1963 at Healdton. They resided in Rogers, AR for several years and Tulsa until moving to Wilson in 2005, where they retired. Charley worked most of his years as a manufacturing and industrial engineer, receiving his bachelors degree from Oklahoma City University. Berta preceded him in death on April 19, 2008. He and the former Wynette "Irene" Linker were married on March 20, 2010 at the First Baptist Church of Wilson. They continued to reside in Wilson where they attended the First Baptist Church of Wilson. Charley served on the Wilson City Council for a few years and always enjoyed spending time working in his wood shop making things for those around him.
Preceding him in death were his parents and his infant brother, Tommy Devenport.
Survivors include his wife Irene of the home; sons, Charles "Chuck" Devenport, Jr. and wife Alisa of Lindale, TX and Thomas "Tom" Neal Devenport and wife Jenny of Reinach, Switzerland; daughter, Lisa Cottrell and husband Scott of Healdton; grandchildren, Lauren, Ross, Nolan, Erik, Nicholas, Sadie, Dylan, and Beth; great grandchildren, Claire, Trent, Shawn, Curtis, Jacob, Adeline and Matrim; numerous other family, church family and friends.
Casket Bearers James Copeland, Merl Bone, Stan Harris, Rodney Wharton, Tony Wharton and Pete Carlile.
Family visitation will be held Friday evening from 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home in Wilson.
