Charles "Charley" Allen Foster

October 1, 1950 — April 24, 2023

Velma- Services for Charles “Charley” Allen Foster, 72, of Velma, are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Saturday, April 29, 2023, at the Velma First Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Johnston and Johnny Cooksey officiating. Interment will follow at the New Velma Cemetery. Services are under the care and direction of Alexander Gray Funeral Home of Velma.

Charley was born October 1, 1950, at Duncan, to the late Mr. Oscar Foster and Mrs. Cubah Dee (Pickens) Foster. He went to his heavenly home on Monday, April 24, 2023, at the hospital in Ardmore.

Charley was raised at Claud, attending school at Velma, graduating with the class of 1968. He married the former Ms. Darlene Smith on October 1, 1971, at Duncan. Charley cowboyed all his life, starting for Slim Whaley, training calf roping horses. He went on to work for Lloyd Ely, taking care of cattle and farming. He was most proud of cowboying for the 3 Stripe Ranch for Joe McCleskey where they cowboyed for many years together. The last place he worked was for Turner Biffle, retiring in 2017. He worked for many other ranches doing day work. Charley loved the cowboy way. He had many friends whom he considered family. He was awarded the Living Legend Award of the Old Settlers Picnic in 2013. Charley had three greatest accomplishments he was most proud of, winning the tie down roping at the Velma Old Settlers Picnic in 1975, he was most likely the only cowboy to compete for 56 consecutive years in the Velma Old Settlers Picnic Rodeo, and winning his first team roping buckle with his daughter Sandy. Charley gave his life to the Lord when he was 15 years of age.
