Charlene Black

Courtney – Funeral Services for Mrs. Glenora Charlene Black, 74, of Courtney, are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 25, 2014 at the Church of Jesus Christ Gospel Tabernacle of Ringling with Rev. Jimmy Morris officiating. Interment will follow at the Belleville Bourland Cemetery at Courtney. Services are under the direction of Alexander Funeral Home of Ringling.


Charlene was born on May 31, 1939 in Oklahoma City to Leonard Emanuel Thorpe and Tamsey Marie (Branstetter) Thorpe. She departed this life Sunday, January 19, 2014 in West Palm Beach, FL.


Charlene was raised in Oklahoma City and moved to the Courtney/Rubottom area as a teenager. While attending school at Courtney she met and soon married Gale Dean Black. They were united in marriage on February 11, 1955 at the Marietta Church of Christ. The couple lived in Oklahoma City a few years and then settled in Ardmore where Charlene was a beautician and a very successful Tupperware Area Sales Manager.


The family relocated to their farm at Courtney in 1970. Charlene was active in the community and engaged in a variety of school activities with her children including leadership in 4H, band, and coaching softball. With her children engaged in every sport Charlene was an avid Ringling sports fan.


In addition to the workings of the farm Charlene was talented in arts and crafts and operated a ceramic shop at the Ringling Mini Mall.


In 1990 Charlene and Gale made a second home in Coral Springs, Florida where she served ten years as a supervisor for the Lake Worth Turnpike. She and Gale retired in 2004 and moved their Florida residence to Okeechobee. They had since spent time between their homes in Florida and Courtney.


Charlene attended the Church of Jesus Christ Gospel Tabernacle where she was baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. She was a devout homemaker and housewife and was the best mom one could be fortunate to have. She will be missed dearly and she has left behind many fond memories for those who knew her.


Preceding her in death was an infant son Terry Wayne Black Jan 19th, 1957, her father Leonard Thorpe, her mother Marie Rudd, and her stepfather Windy Rudd.


Survivors include her beloved husband Gale Black of the home at Courtney; Children, Donnie Black of Carrolton, TX, Sharon Black of Lewisville, TX, Scott Black of San Clemente, CA and Stacy Scully and husband Steve of Palm City, FL; Sister, Pat Hopkins and husband Terry of Bonita Springs, FL; grandchildren, Chris Black, Theresa Barton, Monte Black, Chausse Freeman-Black, Kalie Feiertag, Tyler Feiertag, Andrew Scully and Dalton Scully; Great grandchildren Bryant Black, Jazmin Fisher, Nate Fisher, Hayden and Haylie Black, Dylon McGee and Kayden Barton; as well as Numerous other family and friends.


Casket Bearers are Dewayne McCarty, Jon Tolliver, Cody Rose, Scott Skinner, Dustin Weatherly, Mike Lester and Dale Riley.


Honorary Bearers are James Glenn, Larry Blankenship, Cotton Grant, Tankie Spivey and Harvey Grant.


Family visitation will be from 6 to 8 pm Friday evening at Alexander Funeral Home of Ringling.
