Services for Billy Wayne Sanders, 68, of Wilson, are scheduled for 2:00 P.M., Saturday, January 11, 2025, at the Alexander Gray Funeral Home Chapel in Wilson with David Sanders officiating. Interment will follow at Bomar Pt. Cemetery in Wilson.
Billy was born February 13, 1956, at Wilson, to the late Mr. Royce D. Sanders and Mrs. Margie Sue (Dooley) Sanders. He departed this life Saturday, January 4, 2025, at his home in Wilson.
Billy was one of the many babies born in Wilson, delivered by Dr. Cockerell. He was the third child out of the eight children in his family. Billy attended school at Wilson Public Schools, graduating with the class of 1974. This same year, he married the former Ms. JoAnn Davis and they were blessed with three daughters, Joy, Stephanie, and Katherine. Billy worked in the oilfield and also in construction. He loved building things. Billy spent much of his time sitting on his front porch, counting the cars as they went by. He also enjoyed the companionship of his cat, Leonard.
Preceding him in death are his parents, Royce and Margie; maternal grandmother, Velma Dooley; paternal grandparents, Dee and Ophelia Sanders; daughter, Katherine Hope (Sanders) Dyer.
Survivors include his daughters, Joy Zapata and Stephanie Lee, both of Wilson; grandchildren, Kyle Zapata, Tyler Hickman and wife Michelle, Brianna Morris and Kason Hacker, Megan Sanders and James Dulaney, Shea Hutcherson, Nathan Paul Sanders, Cate Odom, Lacey Sanders, Haley Sanders, and Jordan Robertson; 15 great grandchildren, Phoenix, Presley, Jaxxon, JaeLeigh, Landon, Bryson, Rebel, Rage, Raiden, Ridleigh, Waylon, Luna, Jasper, and Maisyn; brothers, David Sanders and wife Debbie of Calera, Royce Sanders and wife Susan of Wilson, Tim Sanders and wife Elizabeth of Wilson, Gary Don Sanders and wife Patricia of Wilson, John Sanders and wife Tammy of Lone Grove, and Robbie Sanders and wife Cindy of Healdton; sister, Diana Butler and husband Chris of Sherman, TX; 18 nieces and nephews; numerous other family and many friends.
Pallbearers will be Shea Hutcherson, Nathan Paul Sanders, Kyle Zapata, Tyler Hickman, Kason Hacker, Jorden Robertson, and Nathan Morris.
Honorary bearer is Benji Hickman.
Family visitation will be held from 5-7 PM, Friday evening, at the Alexander Gray Funeral Home Chapel in Wilson.
