Funeral Services Billy Gene Adams, 80, of Healdton are scheduled for2:00 PM Friday, August 24, 2012 at Alexander Funeral Home Chapel in Wilson with Rev. Joshua R. Gunter officiating. Interment will follow at Bomar Point cemetery with Navy Burial Honors. Services are under the care and direction of Alexander Funeral Home of Wilson.
Billy was born May 12, 1932 at Wilson to the late Mr. Louie Vassil Adams and Mrs. Susan Alice (Griffin) Adams.. He departed this life Monday, August 20, 2012, at his home in Healdton.
Billy was raised in Wilson as the third of eight children and graduated from Wilson High School in 1950. He joined the United States Navy in June of 1951 during the Korean War. His first assignment was at a radio station in Wahawi, Hawaii for two years. He next served on the USS Logan APA-198, and then on the USS Sandoval APA-196 assigned to operate the post office. He served honorably as a communications specialist until his discharge on June 23, 1955. He and the former Ms. Joy Emerson were united in marriage on March 10, 1956 at the Zaneis Baptist Church. Billy was employed for many years for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company and later he and Joy owned and operated the Healdton Answering Service for more than twenty years.
Preceding him in death are his Parents; Son Craig Adams – April 1, 1978; and Sister Tommy Lou Idleman.
Survivors include his wife Joy of the home; Children, Diana Trammell and husband David of Healdton, Debbie Holder of Healdton, and Pam Fletcher and husband Ben of Alba, TX; Siblings, Jack Adams of Oklahoma City, Dick Adams and wife Mary of Wilson, Bobby Adams of Nocona, TX, Norma Jean Rutledge and husband Rex of Wilson, Judy Glasco and husband Richard of Moore, and Lynn Adams and wife Mary of Nocona; Grandchildren, Josh Holder and wife Kari, Jared Holder and wife Anna, Jill Holder Brown and husband Dustin, Clayton Smith and fiance Ashley Baylor, Cristen Smith, Buddy Wyrick and wife Tami, Brandon Wyrick, and Hunter Wyrick; Great Grandchildren, Lydia Holder, Charlie Holder, Landon Brown, Baylor Brown and twins on the way named Austin and Ashlyn Brown; Numerous other family and friends.
Pallbearers are Josh Holder, Jared Holder, Clayton Smith, Wayne Glasco, Greg Glasco, and Rob Rutledge.
Family visitation will be from 6-8 pm Thursday evening at the funeral home in Wilson.
