Betty Jean Shafer

Ringling – Memorial Services for Mrs. Betty Jean Shafer, 70, of Ringling, is scheduled for 6:00 PM Thursday Evening August 25, 2011 at the Church on the Rock of Ringling with Pastor Joe Taylor officiating. Private inurnment services are scheduled at a later date a Petersburg Cemetery south of Ringling. Services are under the direction and care of Alexander Funeral Home and Crematory of Ringling.

Betty was born January 26, 1941 at Chadron, NB to the late Mr. Rolland Victor Shumway and Mrs. Sarah Mae (Alexander) Shumway. She departed this life Sunday, August 21, 2011 at an Oklahoma City Healthcare facility.

Betty was raised at Chadron graduating from High School at Chadron Prep in 1959. She married the late Mr. Frank Monroe Shafer at Hot Springs, SD and they initially made their home at Camp Creek, OK. Betty was a devoted housewife and mother. She worked professionally as a registered dietician and also owned and operated her own restaurant in Carmargo, OK called “Betty’s Cafe’”. She was always known for being an excellent cook especially for her chicken fried steaks and chocolate pies. She’s leaves behind a legacy of teaching others to love one another and being a devoted mother. Betty was a member of the Church on the Rock of Ringling.

Preceding her in death is her Parents and two infant brothers.

Survivors include her daughters, Rollanda Griffith of Loco and Sarah Taylor and husband Joe of Ringling; Sons, Stanley Shafer and wife Sandra of Countyline, and Johnny Shafer of Ringling; Brother, Victor “Joe” Shumway and wife Patty of Mitchell, NB; 13 grandchildren, Lee, Marshall, Joseph, Derek, Aspen, Chase, Hillary, Samantha, Nathan, Bryan, Joanne, Rebecka and Amanda; Numerous great grandchildren and other family and friends.

Honorary Bearers are Joe Shumway, Stanley Shafer, Johnny Shafer, Joe Taylor, John Lutz, Rolland Shumway, Lee Griffith, Marshall Griffith, Joseph Taylor, Derek Taylor, Aspen Taylor, Chase Taylor, Nathan Shafer, and Dale Wallace.
