Graveside services for Bernice “Wynell” (Hurst) Hatchett, 90, of Arlington, TX, are scheduled for 11:00 A.M., Saturday, December 28, 2024, at Dixie Cemetery, Stephens County with Rev. Joe Taylor officiating. Services are under the care and direction of Alexander Gray Funeral Home in Wilson.

Wynell was born February 19, 1934, at Pinto, to the late Mr. Henry Monroe “H.M.” Hurst and Mrs. Mary Lucille (Muse) Hurst. She departed this life December 14, 2024, at her home in Arlington, TX.

Raised in Pinto, Wynell attended Dixie School, and upon its closure, she continued her education at Fox Schools, where she graduated as the salutatorian of her class. Her academic achievements propelled her to East Central University, where she earned a twirling scholarship. During her time at ECU, Wynell pursued her passion for education, ultimately graduating with a teaching degree in elementary education. On January 9, 1953, Wynell married Mr. Marvin Hatchett, and together they built a life that would take them through Tulsa, Oklahoma, Fort Worth, Texas, and ultimately to Arlington, Texas. Throughout her career as an educator, which spanned from 1967 until her retirement in 1992, Wynell made a profound impact on her students and the community she served. Her commitment to teaching and nurturing young minds was evident in everything she did. Following retirement, Wynell and Marvin continued to work together as they managed several rental properties, a venture that they both enjoyed. Wynell's love for her roots remained steadfast, as she cherished the moments spent visiting Pinto and her peaceful days spent fishing.

Preceding her in death are her parents; husband, Marvin on July 28, 2015; brother, Larry Don Hurst; sister, Beverly Susan Cline; grandson, Jeremy Lee Roten.

Survivors include daughter, Teresa Roten and husband Ron; son, Tony Hatchett and wife Tina; brothers, Vernon Hurst and wife Claudette, Glen Hurst, and Lynn Hurst and wife Karen; sisters, Shirley Gibson and Cleta Anderson and husband Joe; grandchildren, Dwayne Roten, Christine Webber, Taylor Hatchett, and Todd Hatchett; 4 great grandchildren; numerous other family and friends.
