Bennie Dawson Cartwright

Wilson - Funeral Services for Mr. Bennie Dawson Cartwright, 81, of Wilson are scheduled for 10:00 AM Friday, January 8, 2016 at the Rexroat Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Roebuck officiating. Interment will follow at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Ardmore. Services are under the direction and care of Alexander Funeral Home of Wilson.

Bennie was born on May 10, 1934 at Simon to the late Mr. Edgar Lee Cartwright and Mrs. Johnnie Lee (Dawson) Cartwright. He departed this life Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at Healdton.

Bennie was initially raised at Simon and then later moved to Thackerville and then Rexroat when he was in the 5th grade. Attending school at Rexroat he graduated from High School in 1953. Shortly afterwards, he and the former Ms. Janice Gunter were united in marriage on September 12, 1953 at Plainview. They settled and made their home north of Wilson where they still resided.

Bennie worked for Daube Oil Company for 41 years retiring in the early 90's as the Maintenance Foreman. In his retirement, he enjoyed attending all of his grandchildren s activities and watching the Price is Right television show. Bennie was named as the "Oil Man Of The Year" in 2005 Healdton Chamber of Commerce was always dedicated to the Rexroat Baptist Church as an original active member and Deacon, being ordained on July 28th, 1996.

Preceding him in death were his Parents and a son in law, Alven Alexander.

Survivors include his loving wife Janice of the home; daughters, Brenda Alexander of Wilson and Donna Sullivan and husband Mike of Noble; son, David Cartwright and wife Tina of Wilson; grandchildren, Mike Faught and wife Amber, Amanda Stearns and husband Ronnie , Daniel Cartwright, Jacob Cartwright, Emily Welch and husband Dustin and Jessica Edwards and husband Justin; great grandchildren, Megan, Molly, Maddie, McKinley and Alex; also 1 great granddaughter named Ridley who is scheduled to arrive in May that Bennie was very excited about; numerous other family, church family and friends.

Casket Bearers are David Cartwright, Daniel Cartwright, Jacob Cartwright, Mike Faught, Dustin Welch, Ronnie Stearns, Mike Sullivan and Justin Edwards.

Honorary Bearers are Roscoe Gunter, Jim Gunter, Bobby Gunter, Tuffy Gunter, Larry Gunter, Jerry Gunter, Aly Aly and Phil McMillan.

Family visitation will be from 7pm to 8 pm Thursday evening at the Rexroat Baptist Church north of Wilson.
