Barry Lloyd Fitzsimmons

October 25, 1944 — August 27, 2024

Moore, OK

Barry Lloyd Fitzsimons passed away unexpectedly on August 27, 2024 at the age of 79, after a brief illness.

Barry was born October 25, 1944 to Chester L. and Betty (Ashley) Fitzsimmons in Wilson, Oklahoma. He attended school in Wilson where he met his future wife, Shirley Darlene Tapp. He graduated from Wilson High School in 1962. In 1963, Barry enlisted in the United States Air Force and received an honorable discharge at the end of his enlistment.

On August 6, 1966, he and Shirley were married in Wilson, Oklahoma. They settled permanently in Moore, Oklahoma. Barry spent most of his life in the heat and air conditioning field and established his own company, Barry’s Heat & Air, Inc., servicing most of the greater Oklahoma City area.

Barry Fitzsimmons was a good man: quick to smile and slow to anger, easy to get to know and easy to like. He had a great sense of humor and always seemed to see the humorous side of things. But… he had his serious side too and was one of the hardest working men I have ever known. He was also very mechanically inclined – there were few things he could not figure out how to operate or fix and he had a well-equipped shop at this home. He was always the “go to” guy when anyone in the family needed help or advice on a project.

Barry was an avid fisherman and spent as much time as possible fishing on Lake Texoma, where he and Shirley maintained a second home. He loved spending time with his family. Both he and Shirley loved to travel in their RV. They regularly made two or three extended trips each year and also enjoyed cruises whenever their schedules allowed.

He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley; son Kenneth and wife Audrey of Oklahoma City; son Brian and wife Titi of Oklahoma City; grandsons Shelby and Taylor, both of Oklahoma City; and many other family members. Barry was preceded in death by his parents Chester and Betty Fitzsimmons; his sister Noreta Joyce Fitzsimmons Hulsey and her husband “Red” Hulsey; sister-in-law Celestine Sharp; brothers-in-law Bob Sharp, Perry Yarbrough, Charles Mapp, Bill Tapp and Ray Tapp.

Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 am on September 9, 2024, immediately followed by services at Alexander-Gray Funeral Home Chapel in Wilson at 11:00 am with Rev. Jim Duck officiating.  Danny Yarbrough, David McMahon, Mike Bailey, Greg Straughn, Taylor Fitzsimmons, and Shelby Fitzsimmons will serve as pallbearers. The burial will be at Hewitt Cemetery in Wilson, Oklahoma.
