Family, friends, and community members are invited to gather in remembrance of a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Arlene Norma Burkhart, a beloved member of the Ardmore community, passed away on January 8, 2025, at the age of 84, in Oklahoma City. Born on February 9, 1940, in San Bernardino, California, she was the daughter of the late Mr. Whalen Hershal Eaton and Mrs. Roberta Joan (Radar) Eaton.
Arlene spent her early years in San Bernardino, where she attended Pacific Ocean School and graduated in 1957. Her youthful spirit and kindness would guide her through a fulfilling life marked by love, family, and meaningful work. In her early adulthood, she married Raymond Carballo, with whom she had the privilege of raising two daughters. Arlene dedicated herself to her family and enjoyed working as an assistant at her daughters' elementary school. This role allowed her to be closely involved in her children's education and foster friendships with fellow parents and educators. In 1978, Arlene moved to Healdton, Oklahoma, where she continued her professional journey by working in a local sewing factory. She later transitioned into retail sales, finding immense joy in her work at Brides by June and Ida’s Dress Shop, where she connected with customers and shared in their special occasions. Following the loss of her first husband, Raymond, in 1986, Arlene found love again and remarried John Burkhart in 2002. She continued her career at Stage, where she served the community until her retirement. Arlene was known for her genuine nature and fun-loving personality. She adored her grandchildren, often spending time reading stories and singing to them. Arlene dedicated her life to being a Christian later in life. Her passion for nurturing extended beyond her family; she took great pride in caring for her beautiful plants. The warmth she radiated and her ability to brighten the lives of those around her will not be forgotten.
Arlene is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Bobby, and her husbands, Raymond Carballo and John Burkhart.
She is survived by her daughters, Debbie Melton and husband Stephen of Edmond, and Cheri Briscoe and husband Dewey of Healdton; her sister, Mary Sorter of Clarksville, Tennessee; her grandchildren, Rebecca, Kimberley, Brandi, Emily, Michael, and Tracy; and 14 great-grandchildren who affectionately called her G.G.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be sent to Ardmore Animal Shelter (visit www.ardmoreanimalshelter.com) and/ or any shelter of their choosing.
