Wilson - Graveside Services for Mrs. Altha Nora (Sexton) Culwell, 98, of Simon is scheduled for 2:00 PM Saturday, February 12, 2011 at the Simon Cemetery in Simon with Rev. Mike Williams officiating. Services are under the direction of Alexander Funeral Home of Wilson.
Altha was born August 4, 1912 at Dillard to the late Mr. James Monroe Sexton and Mrs. Ida Bell (Womble) Sexton. She departed this life Wednesday evening, February 9, 2011 at Ardmore.
Altha was a native to this area living here her entire life. She was raised in the Dillard and Healdton area attending school at Rexroat. She and Mr. Thomas Marion “Curly” Culwell, Jr. were united in marriage during the spring of 1932 at Wilson. They made their home at Simon where they farmed and ranched all of their lives together.
Altha was a loving housewife and devoted mother, who loved to sew quilt tops and crochet afghans. She enjoyed picking up pecans from year to year and also enjoyed hunting arrowheads and reading. She was a member of the Eastman Baptist Church.
Curly, preceded her in death on February 27, 2001. Also preceding her is her Parents, Daughter in Law Joyce Culwell, January 19, 2009, Brothers, J.C. , Virgil, and Leonard, Sisters, Irene, Linnie Bell, Mae, Gertrude and Geraldine.
Survivors include Daughter, Almenia Culwell of Simon, Son, Thomas Monroe “Sonny” Culwell of Simon, Brother, Jackie Sexton and wife Leona of Albuquerque, NM. Granddaughters, Jeanette Carlile and husband Aaron of Simon, and Cheryl Kay Culwell of Davis. Great Granddaughters, Brandi Kay Carlile and Lori Lynn Mai and husband Wayne. Great Grandson Billy Bob Ball. Great Great Granddaughters, Kaylyn Dawn Barbour and Tylar Paige Mai. Numerous other family and friends.
