Milo- Funeral services for Mr. Aaron Gene Vanerburg, 89, of Milo, will be held 11:00AM Saturday, December 9, 2017 at the Milo Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Johnston officiating and Marsha Pearson with the Eulogy. Interment will follow at the Milo Cemetery with Rev. Jamie Griffin officiating. Services are under the care and direction of Alexander Funeral Home of Wilson.


Aaron Vanderburg was born August 7, 1928 at Clemscott to the late Mr. Oscar Ezell Vanderburg and Mrs. Ada Ellen (Osborne) Vanderburg. He departed this life Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at his home in Milo.


Aaron was raised at Clemscott attending school at Graham graduating from there in 1946. He then enlisted in the Army in 1946 where he served in World War II serving overseas primarily as a military cook. He was honorably discharged on December 8, 1947 and he later served in the Army National Guard from 1948 to 1953 also serving as a cook. Aaron received the WWII Victory medal, Army of Occupation medal and the Korean Service Ribbon. Aaron married the former Ms. Norma Jean Brown, November 21, 1952 at Lone Grove. The couple later made their home in Milo. Aaron worked primarily in the oilfield for Edwin L Cox for close to 30 years. His last 2 jobs working for Creede Speake and Mike Bynum were moments he enjoyed the most. Aaron loved doing wood work and building things. He mowed the Milo Baptist Church yard for many years where he was a long time member and deacon, teaching many classes there. Aaron also really enjoyed fishing.


Preceding him in death are his parents; son, Ronnie Vanderburg on May 7, 2006; sister-in-laws,Allene Bowden, Myrtle Stewart,Helen Brown and Janie Roller; brother-in-law, Buddy Brown; sisters, Florene Martin, Eva Norwood and Viola Stoker; brothers, Aubrey, Fred, Emmett, Cecil, and Stanley Vanderburg; father and mother-in-law, Myrtle and T.G. Brown; nephews, Neil Brown, Tom Brown, and Bear Stewart; niece, DeAnn Forsythe.


Survivors include his wife, Norma Jean (Brown) Vanderburg of the home, daughter, Debbie Cryer and husband Terry of Ardmore; daughter-in-law, Kenna Vanderburg of Dickson; grandchildren, Trevor Allen of Dickson, Lauren Vesely of Ada, and Lindsey Rude of Houston, TX; brother-in-law, Wayne Brown and wife JoAnn of Wilson; numerous other nieces, nephews, family and friends.


Pallbearers will be Creede Speake, Mike Bynum, Jim Gunter, Red Clour, Joe Oakman, and Trent Taylor.


Honorary bearers are Harold Rozzell, Pat Fitzgerald, Jimmy Rex Chatham, Wayne Brown along with the Cross Timbers Hospice nurses and staff.
