Thelma Ruth Poeschel

Wilson – Funeral Services for Mrs. Thelma Ruth (Shepherd) Poeschel, 98, formerly of Wilson is scheduled for 11:00 AM Saturday, March 21, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church of Wilson of with Rev. Greg Tener officiating. Interment will follow at Bomar Point Cemetery of Wilson. Services are under the direction and care of Alexander Funeral Home of Wilson.

Thelma was born February 23, 1917 at Monroe, AR to the late Mr. David R. Shepherd and Mrs. Minnie Clarabelle (Scott) Shepherd. She went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 15, 2015 at Norman, OK.

Thelma was one of 11 children being raised at Monroe, AR where she attended school. Thelma worked at an Airplane factory in Dallas and also attended Beauty College later working as a beautician at Dallas. During WWII she moved to California where she met Mr. Herbert H. Poeschel. They were soon united in marriage at San Francisco and made their home there. Thelma worked as a clerk for Sears for 12 years. She and Herbert moved to Wilson in 1979. Thelma was always very active in the First United Methodist Church of Wilson. She loved doing Jigsaw puzzles and enjoyed watching hummingbirds.

Preceding her in death were her Parents; Husband, Herbert on Nov. 30, 1980; Son in law, Jerrell Vollmer on July 11, 2003; nine siblings, Mary, Robert, Nellie, Eunice, Mable, Maxine, Melvina, Junior and Lloyd.

Survivors include her daughter, Shirley Jean Vollmer of Midwest City; grandchildren, Greg Vollmer of Norman, Julie Schaller and husband Jeff of Yukon; great grandchildren, Aurora, Taylor, Harley, and Scarlett; brother, Jim Shepherd of Monks Corner, South Carolina; numerous nieces, nephews and other family.

Casket Bearers are Greg Vollmer and Jeff Vollmer and the men of the First UNITED Methodist Church of Wilson.

Family visitation will be from 6 to 7 pm Friday evening at the funeral home in Wilson.
