Peter Putnam Magruder

Peter was born in Statin Island, NY on August 7, 1932, to the late Mr. Hamlin Magruder and Mrs. Nina Putnam Magruder. He passed away Monday, August10, 2015 at Elmbrook Nursing Center in Ardmore at the age of 83 years and 3 days. There are no services scheduled for Mr. Magruder and arrangements are under the direction and care of Alexander-Gray Crematory.

Peter was raised in New York, moving to Milford, New Jersey as a young man. During his senior year of college, Peter spent quite a bit of time at Sea, fulfilling some graduation requirements from Kings Point Military Academy of Kings Point, NY. He worked for Cities Service Oil initially working on an oil tanker. He later was employed by Rust Engineering and Construction which brought him to Ardmore when the Uniroyal Plant was being constructed.

While Peter worked in Ardmore, he met the former Ms. Jerrie Paula Williams and they were married January 28, 1972 in Ardmore. They moved around following his work as an engineer. May 15, 2002 the couple moved back to Ardmore, making it their home. He worked security full time at Winstar Casino. Pete was a great reader and loved sports. He was also a past member of the Methodist Church and the Port Washington, NY Masonic lodge.

Preceding him in death was his parents, Hamlin and Nina Magruder.

Survivors include wife, Jerrie of the home; step son, Mike Clark and wife Lanita of Mansfield, TX; 2 granddaughters, Lisa Clark, Denisha Bales and husband Paul all of Ft. Worth, TX; brother, John Magruder and wife Jackie of Allentown, PA; sister, Jo Ellen Ford of Dover, Delaware; and numerous other family and friends.
