Hennepin- Herman D. Downey, aged 94, went to his heavenly home on March 22, 2024, at Ardmore, OK. He was born on February 25, 1930, in Pernell, OK to Audie and Betty Downey.
Herman was raised in Pernell. He married Naomi Horton on July 31, 1951, and the couple made their home in Ratliff City. They enjoyed taking cruises and traveling the states in their RV with their grandson, Seger, and hitting every amusement park along the way. We nicknamed him Herman “Go” Downey as he was always up for an adventure. His hobbies included music and collecting various musical instruments. He loved playing guitar. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles and tinkering in his shop. Herman was a founding member of the First United Pentecostal Church in Ratliff City. His faith was the central part of his life. Anyone that knew him, knew he had a sweet spirit. Herman was employed with Quintin Little Oil Company for 30 years as a production supervisor. He served as an Auxiliary Deputy for the Carter County Sheriff’s Department for 21 years.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Grandson, Seger Drew Downey (The Captain), Foster Son Cesar Gonzales, Brothers Alton, Milburn, Erman (Twin Brother), Windle, Dawl Wayne and Sister, Nita Faye Hart.
Herman is survived by his wife, Naomi, of 72 years of the home, Daughter, Sharon Castro and husband Eudaldo (Willie) of Ratliff City and Son, Clifford Downey and wife Barbara (BJ) of Pennsylvania and a host of other family and friends.
Public Viewing will only be held Monday evening from 1:00-8:00 P.M. at Alexander Gray Funeral Home in Ratliff City. A Private Interment will be held at Hennepin Cemetery.
