Lone Grove - Funeral Services for Mrs. Betty Jean Word, 93 of Lone Grove are scheduled for 2:00 P.M., Friday, December 9, 2022 at New Hope Freewill Baptist Church with her son in law, Rev. David Gardner officiating and her grandson, Rev. Dustin Gardner assisting. Interment will follow to Lone Grove Cemetery. Services are under the care and direction of Alexander Gray Funeral Home in Wilson.
Betty was born January 11, 1929 in Shamrock, TX to the late Mr. Johnie Edward Sublett and Mrs. Emily Katherine (Taylor) Sublett. She departed from this life on Monday, December 5, 2022 in Oklahoma City.
Betty was raised in Texas attending and graduating from Samnorwood High School. She met and fell in love with Mr. Bill Word while working in the cotton patch and they were united in marriage on August 20, 1949 in Wellington, TX. In 1950, they moved to McAllen, TX where they made their home and together were blessed with 3 children, Gary, Mike and Terry. After Mike graduated high school in 1970, they moved to Lone Grove where they lived the rest of their lives together until Bill's passing on February 11, 1993. Betty worked for Uniroyal Tire Plant as a tire builder and splicer for 19 years until her retirement. She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them all. Betty loved everyone and you would know it if she did. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and hallmark movies. Betty was a faithful long-time member of the Lone Grove First Baptist Church.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; and 3 brothers, Vernon, Kenneth, and Paul "Hank" Sublett.
Betty is survived by her children, Gary Word and wife Jay Lynn, Mike Word and wife Janice and Terry Gardner and husband David all of Lone Grove; sister, Geneva Word of Lone Grove; 6 grandchildren, David Gardner, Dustin Gardner (Jodi), Derek Gardner (Sarah), Kenny Word (Caitlyn), Jimi Frasher (Chris) and Philip Word; 10 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends.
Pallbearers at the church will be Chris Frasher, Bryckton Lewis, Reno Raines, Brayden Gardner, Ulises Martinez, Jeff Word, and Greg Sublett. Pallbearers at the cemetery will be David Gardner, Dustin Gardner, Derek Gardner, Kenny Word, Philip Word, and Jamie Word.
Honorary bearers will be Bill Ross, Nephews, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 6-8 P.M. at Alexander Gray Funeral Home in Wilson.
